Why does the City Manager of Redding, a city of less than 100, 000 people, make more per year than the Govenor of California ? , Why does Redding's City Attorney make 150k per year, then on top of that get a 5000 dollar per year bonus, just because he gets a yearly job appraisal with satisfactory ratings or above, just for doing his job ? The government for the people, by the people, for a very select few people...
Where do the poor fit in all of this ? low income ? poverty ?, of Redding and Shasta County. Are these top payed City and County officials and administrators addressing an ever increasing problem found in our area ? Seems like all they can do is vote on yearly pay increases, new plush administrative buildings, and new ways to generate city and county coffers, income directly from the people they should be serving and representing, (new taxes, raised traffic fines, reduced social services,) etc...affecting who deeply ?, those in poverty and low income situations of course. What about mental health services in Redding and Shasta County, was this something we here should have "cut", as a way to balance the budget ? Seems like the first paragraph of this letter addresses what we should really be cutting.
There are so many grants out there, so much money , most of it being abused, taken in a direction for private gain, calling themselfs non profits, claiming concern for the poor, but really profit is the goal, again for a chosen few, while money is made , directions are taken which will never alleviate the problem . Do we really need organizations to get the poor to eat fat free foods ? , watch there weight ?, financial ministries to educate the poor of a problem in which they are all too painfully aware of ? , Pay rent first , utilities secound , and oh ohh, no money left for food and clothes ?
Can anybody make it in a community that the service industry is the leading employer?, with below poverty wages? Its no wonder depression, alcoholism, suicide, and divorce run so rampant here. Really, better translated, no faith, no hope, no Love...
Lets face it Redding, Afforadable housing, and jobs that pay a liveable wage, as well as retraining in an affordable academic training center is the key, with on site dorms, for familys, as well as individuals.
Theres grants available for all of this out there, But what would it take to bring this together ? Oh the Body of Christ has many parts, containing many talents, but can they cross the walls of denominationalism , United in the Spirit of Unity and the Bond of Peace, in one common goal? ( There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Can this commitee of Church talent then join with city and county administrators in one common goal ? With God, all things are possible....... http://www.reddingloavesandfishes.com/
