I have trouble believing Ward Cleaver's dad was as bad as he said he was. Anyway, I'm glad Ward treats Beaver and Wally better than he says his dad treated him.

I think Leave it to Beaver must be about the best show ever made.

Did you know that Hugh Beaumont (Ward Cleaver) had a masters degree in theological studies and was a essentially a Methodist pastor?

I knew he was a Methodist pastor. He apparently was unhappy being on the show.

Wikipedia says this about the casting of the show; Connelly and Mosher finally signed Hugh Beaumont, an actor and Methodist lay minister who had worked with Mathers in a religious film.

I've not heard about Hugh Beaumont not being happy with the show, but who knows. Not a lot about him outside the show. Leave it to Beaver pretty much made him a house hold name.

I think Hugh wanted to have a spectacular role in a movie, or some such thing, and thought Leave it to Beaver was holding him down or type-casting him. I don't think the show was terribly popular at the time.

Maybe so. I've heard that about a lot of actors. Ironic isn't it? I mean if it's true then the thing he hated made him the thing he wanted, to be known.

It is very ironic. It's too bad he's not alive today. Leave it to Beaver is on all the time on my Antenna TV channel.

I used to watch that show a lot on TV Land. They used to have a lot of old shows on there.
TV Land doesn't appear to be worth watching anymore, though.

Antenna TV is an over the air channel that currently is showing a lot of Leave it to Beaver reruns, along with a lot of other old shows. I get two other over the air oldies channels - Retro TV and MeTV.
