That's the cover story of National Geographic this month.

Great Article.....here is a link to some excepts, but I really suggest buying the magazine if you don't already subscribe...(By the way, the answer to the question, according to the article, is "No").

I think is does a tremendous job of walking through the theory as well as good discussions of the critiques of the theory.

Somehow I can guess what National Geo's answer to their own question will be!

Darwin was wrong about a good number of things:

Acquired traits being passed on

The agency of neutral changes in evolution

The nature of heredity (opted for a humoral as opposed to particulate way)

And many others. He wasn't God. He was one of the great scientists. And he was limited in his view by the knowledge available.

He was even wrong about the supposed inferiority of Non-English people.

Modern science has validated his central discoveries, but modern evolutionary theory differs in a number of ways from his ideas.

That is the gist of the article.

He would have be far more able to corroborate his theory and gain acceptance of it had he worked with Mendel, the contemporary geneticist. I've heard they were in contact but their works didn't come together.

HUH?

I don't know what most of you read but it did not debunk Darwin in any way. At best it only pointed out that many still do not accept its theory despite the "overwhelming evidence" it is a fact.
