Was Jesus a liberal?

I think this about sums it up ;)

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Liberal what?

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17).

The question is a double edge sword.

Christ was probably the most conservative life that has ever existed. But at the same time, He offered FREEDOM.

Hmmm............Some people would use this term 'freedom' to believe that they are ABLE to 'do as they please'. But the problem is that such behavior is not necessarily 'freedom'. What we have been offered is 'freedom' from guilt and conviction. There IS a difference.

Blessings,

I suppose if you use the definition of "conservative" as the dictionary discusses (rather than political affiliation), a conservative is one who opposes change and prefers the status quo... I think there is room to argue either case... I think "Dave Slayer" might have to further define "liberal". In the spiritual realm, I would say Jesus was a "liberal" in that He called men to change or convert, RATHER than maintain the status quo of a life apart from God, a life that was loveless.

True. He offered freedom from sin, not freedom from worshiping God outside the Temple, for example. Here again, we have to understand that the freedom Jesus offers is not defined as "doing my own thing", but becoming more human - which is my reflection on Jesus is worth anything - means that we are slaves to God, rather than slaves to sin...

This "slavery" is not the same definition of freedom that our secular contemporaries view things.

This is just my own perception, but I always saw the Pharisees as Conservative and the Saducees as liberals. Jesus is the Truth as Jeff mentioned. The Lord bless all of you.

He did care for the widow and the orphan, they would probably accuse Him today of being socialist.

Mic 6:8
8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;
and what doth the LORD require of thee,
but to do justly, and to love mercy, and
to walk humbly with thy God
? KJV

To DO justly and to LOVE mercy is evidenced in the walk of true (not feigned) humility...
and results in christian LOVE, whether being just or extending forgiveness,
that being liberal and/or conservative, according as the need arrises.
