My husband was raised a JW, and of course had different things instilled in him. One is whether or not it's acceptable to have a blood transfusion. We've been studying, and I'm curious, I was told certain dietary laws were fulfilled, but does that include the law regarding consuming blood? I know it does not pass through the digestive system upon transfusion, but I'm trying to help him understand why it would not be considered part of that particular law.

He is wrong. Recieving Blood is not the same as eating it. Does one eat or consume the donated organ as well. I dont think that law was for that. At that time pagan and heathen cultures would sacrifce an animal and eat the blood as they believed that powers of the animal would join the person who ate that. That is what the Lord was meaning to stop and make a difference, the same thing with a tatoo. Then the marks were used as religous cermeonies. But i dont want to get into tatoos as i dont think that a christian should get them as well its not becoming of a body that is now for the lord. Itis also another topic.

ask that person do they eat meat, and pepperonis. The latter has blood in it.
so does most meat.

Does that mean I cannot eat rare steaks?

the blood found in steaks isnt blood but a substance called myoglobin, similar to blood but a means that carries the oxygen need for the blood. when its red it o2 rich, and when its grey its o2 deprived.

i stand corrected with the grey coloring.

you could but that would be unwise. as some parasites and or other sickness may occur.

i wouldnt eat raw pork nor chicken.

Oh, I meant beef. I won't even touch a chicken if it had any pink in it.

i know , but my dad has gotten food poisioning from his love of raw steaks a couple of times.
his health from other things prevents him for raw meats.
