Do parents even do that anymore? Is it even legal? If your child swears at you do you ground them, take away their TV privileges or just let it go?

I think the parent that washes their child's mouth out with soap demonstrates a savage disconnect from the fact they've failed as a parent in gentle instruction. And are now admitting they resign themselves to abuse. Such a one should be made to wash their own mouth out with soap for a day straight. While their child is in the protective custody of a family member that is vetted and loves them.

There's such a thing as speaking one on one with a child. Asking them where they came up with such words. Depending on their age they can be mimic's and they're simply repeating what they heard their parent say. If that's the case that parent has no business washing that child's mouth out with soap. Because that child's mouth formed the naughty word that their parent first taught them by example is OK to say.

I heard the saying back in my time....... a lot, but never knew any one that did that!
my children are now in there 50's..... I just made sure I started out with no you can not do that ! and kept it up did not miss
watching and making sure they did what I said that made it so much easier years later , they knew what not to do......
