Watching a tv show with a gay host?

My mom seems to think that it's ungodly to watch Ellen or Anderson Live because they're gay. I understand its a sin to be gay but it's not like they're preaching to us to become gay. Ellen is just a comedian talk show and Anderson is a news talk show. I am not gay, neither am I influenced by anyone to do so. Do you think it is wrong to watch these shows?

I think I would look at it this way. Would watching it influence you by leading you into a life of sin? Does the host promote their sinful lifestyle on the air even in a subtle way? Does knowing the host is a professed gay person influence your views about the gay lifestyle so that you might begin to get curious or even consider trying it yourself? If you've answered yes to any of these questions then maybe the program is a stumbling block for you and you should avoid it.

If we are to avoid people because of they are guilty of sin we would leave ourselves completely alone in the world and then how could we complete our great commission? Did Jesus avoid all people that were guilty of sin?

So at this point you're probably thinking that I am telling you that it is okay for you to watch those programs if they don't affect you in a negative way. There's another thought that comes to mind and I found it in Exodus 20:12 and again in Deuteronomy 5:16.

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Would disobeying your mother bring honor to her?
