Water in the laptop

Member
I was out in the park with my laptop and it rained and water got in it, and it started acting crazy pulling up stuff that I did not click on. So I take it home and it would not come on at all. So I take it apart and tried to dry it with a hair dryer it worked at first and then it would not start again. This after I put it back together so I blew hot air in all the vent holes, and that worked again. And the laptop did it again so I dried it again, I don't know ho long this is going to take. But I might put it in the trunk of my car and let the sun beat on it, it gets real hot in that trunk.

Lewis, I don't know the exact procedure, but I do know that it takes time to get the water out of electronic things, and by that I mean at least 2 days. My son had a similar problem with his cell phone and he went through a careful drying procedure before even attempting to turn it on again (it did work when he went thru it correctly).

My concern is not so much the MOBO as much as other "moveable" things such as the HD or something else "internal" that is difficult if not impossible to open.

The fact that it is working intermittently tells me that there is hope, but I'd give it a few days before trying it again so that nothing shorts permanantly. You can google this one but maybe at least open it up the best you can and run a fan over it for several days. Also use some canned air for possible moist dirt or something to that effect. Oh, take the battery out as well --- it should have NO POWER as even a computer that is "off" has residual power running to it.

Good luck, Bro.

Wouldn't it work to set it on a tabletop out of the way in front of a box fan for like all day or something? Never had this problem, but it sounds like it needs to be left alone and a good source of air flow for some time to get good and dried out.
