Water Intoxication

I drink two gallons (7,570.412 ml) of water a day, and the man who got me doing that drinks as much as four gallons (15,141.65 ml) a day in the summertime when he is out in the sun.

As I recall, he said the minimum amount of water we should drink is 1/2 our body weight in ounces of water. In other words, a 200 pound man should drink no less than 100 oz. per day. (1 Gallon is 128 oz.)

WOW

I know you can both get "drunk" off water, AND die from too much of it. But I think you would almost have to have a garden hose sealed to your mouth to be able to pump that much non-stop water into yourself.

I have heard of water intoxication. It can also deplete your electrolytes and cause lethal heart arrythmias.A reasonable amount of water is good but you can get too much.

2 gallons a day! What?

Are you diabetic that you know of?
Nope, not a bit. I've always liked water, and thought I was drinking plenty at a gallon a day (more in the summer, working outdoors). But this doctor had me double up on it.... and every bit of the pain in my knees went away.

Don't get me wrong, Kathi. I didn't say I was drinking because I was thirsty. The doctor first put me on more water for my liver. After all, it is only water that really makes your liver do its "filtering" function.

Engineer, 29, died of drinking too much water after he downed 14 PINTS 'when his drink was spiked with ecstasy'

But does your doctor know how much water you are drinking?

4 cups of coffee is a quart.... 2 sodas= 3 cups 1 orange juice about a 1/2 gallon so far...

it sounds like you have no room for steak.

I always thought the answer to your question was no, however webmd says it ok
Fruits are an excellent source for water. Watermelon is 90% water, so it ranks highest on the list. Oranges, grapefruit, and melons like cantaloupe and honeydew are also strong contenders.

Vegetables, though not as full of water as fruit, can also provide a nutrient-rich water source. Stick with celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, and Romaine lettuce.

There are plenty of hidden sources of water in your diet, says White. If you want to tap into these foods, reach for oatmeal, yogurt, soup, and smoothies.

Besides guzzling water, milk is a top choice to refuel. Sodas, even diet ones, get a bad rap for lacking nutritional value, but they can still be hydrating. Juices and sports drinks are also hydrating -- you can lower the sugar content by diluting them with water.

Coffee and tea also count in your tally. Many used to believe that they were dehydrating, but that myth has been debunked. The diuretic effect does not offset hydration.

Alcohol is a huge dehydrator, says White. You should try to limit your intake, but if you are going to raise a glass, aim for at least a one-to-one ratio with water.

If you don't like the taste of plain water, White suggests adding lemon to it. Or test out your own concoction, like sparkling water with raspberries with a sprig of mint.

He's pleased that I am finally drinking enough. Only one gallon wasn't enough.

Oranges are one of the biggest "No-no's"... bananas, too...followed by yogurt.
Dairy is supposed to be off limits, altogether.... but I do cheat some. As bad as milk is for adults, (actually, anyone past infancy), I love the stuff.
And, as we all should know, Sodas (especially artificially sweetened Diet types) have no business in the human body. Same with Sports Drinks (all the supposed "good" stuff in them is strictly chemicals.)
Coffee is hard to break, but at least I like it without cream or sugar. But, I have gotten down to only one cup per day... MOST days. Never have been much for tea, and the ones I did like are not too good for us. Did you know they both actually cause you to LOSE water content because they stimulate excessive urination?
Limit alcohol? Nope. Don't touch it at all. There is not one thing in alcohol that does not fight our bodies.
Table salt is out.... but Sea salt tastes better, anyway.

When you get into truly learning about diet and nutrition, it is staggering what "modern" man has done to himself since we pretty much quit eating and drinking real food.
