So says Prof Steven Dorking here:-

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/01122006/140/h ... h-die.html

He says we are @ 20 years away from the Star Trek-type techno that will enable mankind to colonise suitable stars in other solar systems, claiming mankind's future will then be secure

He also says that one day mankind will know all God's thoughts & understand all the laws governing the universe - only by spending zillions on following foolish notions

It's so like what Satan falsely claimed in Genesis 3

& in Isaiah 14 & Ezekiel 28

That spirit of antichrist is also in 2 Thessalonians 2 & Revelation 13 etc

I'll post this now, as lunchtime phone-ins start @ now on http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 & http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool etc

Reply will cover timespan in Bible prophecy..

Steve, we don't have 20 years till the instant airlift Rapture rescue of all who love Jesus - as in Matt 24:30-31, 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 & 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11 etc

Matthew 24:30-31 (New International Version)

30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

1 Corinthians 15:51-58 (New International Version)

51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."[a]
55"Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?" 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Footnotes:

1 Corinthians 15:54 Isaiah 25:8
1 Corinthians 15:55 Hosea 13:14

1 Thess 4

The Coming of the Lord

13Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5

1Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

4But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Jesus & OT prophets specified this climax generation would start with the rebirth of Israel - that happened in 1948

A Bible generation is no more than the famous '3 score years & 10' - 70 years

& Jesus promised THIS generation will be CUT SHORT by the Rapture - 'otherwise no-one would be left alive' - Matt 24

"NOW is the day of salvation"

What we must do NOW is ask Jesus to forgive all our sins & invite Him into our hearts as Saviour & Lord of life - as in John 3, Romans 3 etc

Must go

Nice intro. Maybe you could make fun of his handicap as well.

How certain of this rapture are you? I remember a book called "88 Reasons Why the Rapture Could Be in 1988." Wow! 88 prophecies from the Bible that all point to 1988! Here is a few blurbs about him from Field Guide:

Whisenant had no doubts about his date, stating: "Only if the Bible is in error am I wrong; and I say that to every preacher in town." During one interview he made a declaration that dramatically demonstrated his level of confidence: "f there were a king in this country and I could gamble with my life, I would stake my life on Rosh Hashana 88."

...

Eventually, 300,000 copies of 88 Reasons were mailed free of charge to ministers across America, and 4.5 million copies were sold in bookstores and elsewhere.

When nothing happened by the end of September 13, Whisenant revised his prediction, suggesting the rapture would come at 10:55 AM on September 15. When that failed, he revised it to October 3.

...

Even when that date passed, Whisenant remained undaunted: "The evidence is all over the place that it is going to be in a few weeks anyway," he told Christianity Today.

After his "few weeks" had transpired, Whisenant finally saw his error. He claimed that he had made a slight miscalculation of one year because of a fluke in the Gregorian calendar. Jesus was actually going to return during Rosh Hashanah of 1989! Whisenant published his discovery in The Final Shout--Rapture Report 1989. "The time is short," he said. "Everything points to it." This publication was subsequently retitled The Final Shout--Rapture Report 1990 and has since been re-titled yearly as The Final Shout--Rapture Report 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and so on. He continues to revise his date annually.

Christians have pretty much always thought the rapture would be soon ever since Jesus died.

So instead of trying to keep everyone in a rapture-ready mode. Lets try to plan for a future with humanity struggling to explore space and future science.

All the severe weather and global changes that are coming are already mentioned in Revelation.

Revelation 16:9
Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.

Even scientist believe these things are coming although they refuse to acknowledge that God predicted them first in His word. God is going to use the natural elements to accomplish His purposes.

As far as the rapture, I don't know when it will take place or what we will have to go through. I feel pretty certain the believers won't be here when God pours out His wrath.
