Dreamweaver is alright. But if you don't know how to use it, it is nigh unto worthless. It also has a steep learning curve. For a trained professional such as yourself, it may just be the cat's meow, or the bee's knees. But for an untrained layman (read idiot) like me exercising a hobby horse, I wouldn't recommend anything other than Evrsoft. That is, if a person preferred to not use a wysiwyg editor. Otherwise go with Frontpage.
Evrsoft 1st Page will tidy your code for you. It will point out your errors and suggest ways of correcting them. It will also validate your code to w3c standards. And while Dreamweaver will also do this, Evrsoft will not add proprietary code to your document that creates compliance issues that tend to favor the inferior browser produced by Microsoft. Dreamweaver does.
Dreaweaver may have changed the way they do things these days, but the last time I tried Dreamweaver they very clearly, and possibly even intentionally, operated in favor of Internet Exploder.
Let's not forget the cost issue. Last time I checked, DW was somewhere in the neighborhood of $400.00 for the full suite of software. You can get a fully operational version of Evrsoft 1st Page for free. Even their new version is a paltry $58.00.
If you are a trained professional in need of a high-end web development software suite, Dreamweaver is the way to go. But then again, if you are a pro, you probably wouldn't be asking which editor to use in here.
