Wesleyan-Arminian

Can anyone give me info on this?

The church we've been visiting says this:

Our beliefs and teachings are based on the Bible as the inspired Word of God, with a literal interpretation. They tend to be along the lines of the Wesleyan-Arminian tradition.

I went to a Wesleyan church faithfully as a teen and really enjoyed it. They seemed a lot along the lines of Baptist. I've never heard of Arminian though.

Thanks in advance.

Arminian is refering to the famous Calvin vs. Arminian debate. This debate focuses on how one is Saved and those things Relating to Salvation.

Here are the five points of Arminianism.

Partial Depravity or Tendency to Sin
Conditional Election
Unlimited Atonement
Resistible Grace
Conditional Security of the Believer

Here are the Five points of Calvinism, often reffered to as the TULIP.

T - Total Depravity or Total Inability
U - Unconditional Election
L - Limited Atonement
I - Irresistible Grace
P - Perseverance of the Saints

If I'm not mistaken, the Majority of Baptist agree with TP of Calvanism and the Conditional Election, Unlimited Atonement, and Resistable Grace or Arminianism.

Some people take all five points of one or the other, some take a few of one, and a few of the others, and other throw both out because they figure each is too much to an extreme interpitation. I'm with the last group, though I lean more to Calvin.

If the Church is saying its Wesleyan-Arminian, it's simply is letting you know where they stand on the doctrines surrounding Salvation. Jason can tell you all sorts of things about Calvinism. I haven't studied either enough to tell much more than I have.

Ummmm...whatever you two said...

I need baby words. More like "They believe in Jesus. They believe that he died on the cross for our sins. They believe that this is what you need for salvation.....etc..." LOL!

Yeah, I say forget it too.

It doesn't make much sense to me and I still can't find anything that really tells their beliefs. I know that this church preaches from the bible and they are REALLY big on prayer. I've never been to a church where they pray as much as this one. They turn to God for his wisdom and guidance over just abot anything and everything. But that's a good thing, so I'm not going to complain. I've always said that the power of prayer is something that can't be beat.
