What are some of your favourite Christian song?

PS: @questdriven : Hope you guys have a good concert, anyway. I think you said your brother really likes such concerts, too? (if he's allowed to go, that is).

We get to know what kind of lyrics speak to us, anyway; good when they are really Biblical, anyway.

Blessings.
Yeah.

Also, the music my mom tends to like, also tend to speak from a bit of a different point of view than the ones I do. They ultimately have the same messages, but they maybe focus on slightly different things. In other words, they reflect my mom's POV more than anything. I tend to like music that comes from my POV, as well. Music style is a part of the equation somewhere. Perhaps it's more common of people who like a certain style to believe X, Y, or Z compared to people who tend to like other styles.

questdriven:

Interesting; like how would this work in practice? Anyway, for example the hard rock Disciple track 'Battle Lines' is very Biblical.

Blessings.
Yeah. Well, there is a lot of variety. I'm not saying it's strictly true, but it does seem to be true to an extent. Certain types of churches tend to tie music styles into beliefs, as well, such as rock music being supposedly unBiblical. My old pastor preaching against modern music, once picked a song with lyrics that speak of God as if you were speaking to a boyfriend or girlfriend. Some people call these "Jesus is my boyfriend" songs. I don't think this is necessarily wrong anymore, although he thought it was blasphemous or something. Anyway, there is plenty of variety, so if you don't like those kind of songs, it's easy to avoid that.

I see, ty, anyway; but I was just thinking, those hard hitting lyrics by Disciple in 'Battle Lines': would your mom's usual preacher (or your mom herself, even) have trouble with those lyrics? :chin

Blessings.

If I was one to stir the pot, I might get a text copy of the lyrics to show to them and see what they think. Then if they liked it, tell them what genre it was. But that'd be kinda mean.
They might think it's not direct enough (needs to be more like hymn lyrics, etc), or that's there's hidden demonic messages or something. Or that's the way the message is conveyed is too modern. Since they give out tracts saying those kind of things.

questdriven:

Not direct enough? :) those 'Battle Lines' lyrics actually stuck me as very direct and hard hitting. To me they did, anyway.

Actually you show a lot of restraint; some less mature young people would maybe just react, whereas it's best, like you say, not to stir the pot, right?

And far from detracting from the direct lyrics, the hard rock accompanying sound actually reinforces the effect of the lyrics, according to my two cents'...

(Oh well...)

Blessings.

PS: Supper time; ttyl.

Yeah.
Well, when people focus on the wrong things, they say all kinds of things.

Anyway, the music my mom listens to does tend to focus more on almost taboo topics to fundamentalists, like evolution, the state of America, etc. And I don't necessarily disagree. I mean, I'm a young earth creationist and all.
But the music I listen to doesn't really focus on that. I guess most of it is more centered on changing yourself, like the saying "I wanted to change the world, so I started myself". IDK. Maybe I'm generalizing too much. Not to say that they don't focus on important topics, they do. Just from a somewhat different POV. That's how it seems to me, anyway.

questdriven:

Oh well, maybe even your mom is getting a bit out of the Fundamentalist cultural mode.... (I don't mean Biblically and doctrinally).

The fact also that she might like a Third Way concert...

Blessings.

Blessings.
