What are the issues faced by children today?

Hello Everyone,
What, do you think, are the biggest issues faced by children of the age group 12-15 yrs.
Few that came to my mind were peer pressure, anger management....
And how fast do you think the issues are changing?
( Or are the changing at all? )
And how much do you think Sunday School should address them?

I think these are the main issues:-

(1) Pornography with all that the Internet has to offer.

(2) Conflicting messages sent by religious leaders those who believe in the
bible as the word of God and those who question the bible.

(3) Double standards by parents...who say one thing and do another

(4) The constant focus on material things to the exclusion of things that
really matter.

I would not consider peer pressure to be a main issue.. from bible times there was peer pressure but as was the case of Joseph he made up his mind to do what was right.
What I would say is that there more things teenagers have to deal with in this generation than their counterparts say over hundred years ago...

I believe the church should be able to teach and guide these youngsters but the main responsibility lies with the parents... This is their God-given duty.

I agree very much with abide's post. But as a 20 year-old, peer pressure is immense, especially if you're in university/college.

I believe at the heart of the matter are the same problems that have plagued young people for a long time, but the Internet has intensified these issues greatly.

Peer pressure? Now they have it while they're alone at home on line. Hormones and dealing with lustful? Now satisfaction of temptation is one click away. The pressure of grades in school? Now parents don't have to wait until conferences or report cards to find out when they are not performing satisfactorily. Worries and anxiety about the world they live in? They don't have to click much at all.

Technology is not good or bad. It's harm is brought on by the user. But the Internet has taken the pressures associated with the teen years and magnified them exponentially. :sad

adding to those already mentioned are:
5. Bullying just for being a Christian. This is done by both teachers and students.
6. Public schools tearing down Christian beliefs and values. 60 years ago the schools reinforced those values.
7. Cults often reaching the kids at this age through Scouts and Boys and Girls clubs.

There has alwas been persecution of Christians, but less in this country 50 years ago.

I agree.

There's also the temptation to lie to your parents about what you're doing online and trying to hide it, afraid that they'd kill you if they found out. That was something I remember dealing with. (Which looking back the things I worried so much about weren't as bad as I thought at the time, but I have come across a lot of stuff I wish I hadn't.)
Come to think of it, that'd just be another thing that's always been around in some way but made worse by the internet.

Other than the technology that delivers temptation faster and more efficiently, I don't see anything listed on here thus far that hasn't been a problem for every generation since Socrates'.

just like they feared the effects of tv on childrens brains, now we fear the effect of internet. i'm totally wired myself, but i was just yesterday hanging out with friends and we didn't even look funny junk up on the computer, we just old-fashoined-hung-out, didn't get anxious about not being online, yeah, great. i have a smartphone but i don't get it out to fiddle with unless im sitting on a long train trip or stuff. but i was thinking about kids who have smartphones and stuff, the latter part of my own generation. studies show that people who are constantly using the internet have brain anomalies similiar to junkies... the internet is like crack. it's pretty stimulating to follow ten different shows, read wikies dedicated to those shows, read articles on politics, science, sociology, religion while your friends bombard you with their intrests or just plain weird or the really shocking, to which you respond a simulated reaction because you don't really react anymore, just accept and move on the next kicks. i ain't even overwhelmed anymore! im underwhelmed, so thats my brain too. :study

thats like television^television

rambled, posted, remembered my actual point, edited: you must've seen the kids, they seem so isolated and braindead with their faces glued to screens. and when we all die out, thats all there will be left of humanity.
