What happened to the Jewish Church?

They started off pretty good when the Apostles were here as we can see in Acts. Where'd all the Jewish Christians go?

Messianic congregations I believe they would be called now.

Thanks John.

I suppose I'm asking, is there a continuous line of Jews who were Christians, who taught their kids about Jesus who became Christians etc, etc. Many "Gentile" nations became "Christian" over time, but not Israel. Seems strange.

If someone was of Jewish persuasion then would they not go to a synagogue instead? Being Jewish cannot be a race because you have coloured jews, and arabic jews etc so it must be a religion. Ok I am confused as I don't know what it means to be jewish: is it religion or race? Can you define that please so I can sound more intelligent when I respond. :oops :oops :crazy :chin

I mean a race. Specifically the ones who came from Abraham through his wife Sarah, and then from Jacob. Not people who simply adhere to Judaism.

I would just call Jews a nationality or having come from Jewish roots. It's not a race. I'm sure they look similar to arabs (in Israel).
There have always been a faithful remnant of Jewish believers. You probably wouldn't recognize them in Jewish church because they are in Christian churches...just like those that come from muslim areas are muslim. Some of them are Christian also. They go to Christian churches.
You are right the Jews are all over the world. A lot have headed back to Israel. That's one of the prophecies about them. As for the Christian Jews. I don't think they would go there, as part of Jewish unity. Can't speak for Jews though. I'm not one. Only a spiritual one through Abraham. Christians are inheritors of the promise of Abraham, (the promise to him through faith).
Romans 4:13  For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Galatians 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Thank you Justvisiting, that is the best explanation of Jewishness I have ever heard, sort of the same as what makes one a US citizen or a Russian etc. :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

Jews are not a race, as you get jews from all ethnicities. So can you redefine what a jew is please.
thanks

I don't mean the Jew who is circumcised in the heart (which would be born again Christians), I mean, the ones who came specifically from Abraham who accepted Christ in the 1st century.

Spiritual Jew, bloodline Jew. The bloodline ones that believe in Christ are the ones I am referring to.

Edit: I realize there is no distinction between ethnic lines once in Christ, so the Jews above would actually be "spiritual Jews." But, why isn't Israel known as a Christian nation today when the church started out so strong there in the beginning?

Thanks

Probably because the times of the Gentiles have not yet been fulfilled. When there is a major influx of Jews to their homeland...and they go about setting up their temple for sacrifice etc. I think you will find that around that time...they will start to see the truth. They will start to be persecuted again.
It was no different in the time of Paul. The majority of Jews were not believers then either. The Bible says only a remnant is saved. It would be like saying all Americans are Christians just because their constitution originally said they believed in God. No such thing. Individuals get saved. Not entire nations.

Thanks, JV. I understand about whole nations being saved vs individuals etc (although I believe whole nations (or many of those in a nation) can "respect" God while not being "Christian" per say.

I'll start a new topic on the "times of the Gentiles." Interesting topic. lol. ;) :D

Actually, just thought I'd clarify my explanation. Being a Jew, is not the same as having an Israeli passport. Jews are more of a lineage. They descend from Jacob, which was later called Israel. Judah was one of the sons of Jacob.
Taken from this site: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/judaism/FAQ/05 ... on-78.html
The word Jew is English and is only used by Jews who speak English. It
is derived from the Hebrew word, yehudi meaning Judean, which comes
from the name of the tribe of Yehudah (Judah). Before the Babylonian
exile, the Northern Kingdom of Israel essentially disappeared and only
the Southern Kingdom of Judah remained. As a result, the name of the
Southern Kingdom began to be used to refer to all the descendants of
Jacob (Israelites).

Note: Arabs are also descended from Abraham, but they certainly do not
call themselves Jews. Why? Because they were not part of the tribes of
Israel.
Rather, they claim lineage through Abraham's son Ishmael.
By the way the lineage of Christ descends from Jacob, also. He is called the lion of the tribe of Judah.
Although, that is only in the natural. Honestly, Jesus was before the world ever was.

Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Joh 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Joh 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
JESUS WAS ACTUALLY BORN AFTER JOHN, BUT HE IS ETERNAL. THAT IS WHY HE WAS BEFORE JOHN.
Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
