God never said we would live a life without persecutions, but to trust Him in all things that even if we are persecuted to death we will always be with the Lord.

As to the OP, examples of self-sabotaging are... fellowshiping with people that hate God.
Watching things that glorify wickedness.
Hearing things that serve something that is against God.
Lack of a prayer life.
Lack of a study life.
Lack of charity.
Putting yourself before others.
I am sure there are other examples too.
