Bible Study What is our reward?

Angel

Member
Tonight I began reading Matthew chapter 6. In verses one and two, they talk about how we should not help others in order to be respected or recognized, because if we do that that is all the reward we will get. But, as in verses three and four, it says if we give/help people in secret, God will reward us openly.

So what is the reward God gives?

Our Lord will bless us in accordance with His Will because He knows our hearts.
The 'reward' varies according to what we each may have need of at the time ... whether it is more strength/courage to face a particular situation ... more wisdom, sincerity ... whatever it is that we need. His blessings (rewards) are amazing.

The emphasis is to act as before God in the privacy of our consciences, rather than to be seen by other people, as the Scribes and Pharisees in their robes in public places, etc.

The Lord honors those who honor Him.

Blessings.

The "reward" really has two components. The context of the passage is Jesus teaching the people to return to a heart of worship in charitable deeds, prayer and fasting. The Pharisees were doing them for attention from men.

So the first part of the reward is the ability to offer worship to your God. That in itself is a rewarding activity.

The second part is something determined by our Lord. While we shouldn't do anything with a sense of entitlement from God to do something specific in return, God does provide for our needs and desire to bless how He sees best.

Circumstance is a big factor. For example, earthly rewards mean little in heaven. Gold is like asphalt in heaven.

The scriptures I keep coming across are those that say Bible wisdom / God's wisdom is greater than all the treasures of the earth.

What you know, what you've learned, what God has shown you is more reward than you may realize. God called Abraham his friend (in that he let Abraham in on his plans).
