What is Satan up to?

I am curious what you think Satan is trying to accomplish. This is sort of how I look at it:

Satan wants us to worship him. Towards that end, he tempts people in to prideful behavior and attempts to trick the rest of us into putting these people into leadership positions in our various governmental, church, and other organizations. When he succeeds, he causes these leaders to make us all miserable until we kiss their feet. In other words, if there is something you need from this leader, you will not get it without kissing their feet. The trick, of course, is to prevent Satan from tricking us into putting the wrong people into leadership roles.

Do I have an overactive imagination?

i think Satan has been given the power to tempt us.
 
You are forgetting that it is God who puts people into leadership roles.

Dan 2:37 - Thou, O king, [art] a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

Rom 13:1 - Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Of course it's tempting to think you know better. :D

Did God put Hitler into the leadership of Germany?
 
The Bible says that God appoints leaders, even Nebuchadnezzar was appointed by God, and he was also disposed of by Him, so God probably appointed Hitler, too. As for what Satan's doing right now, if you're serious about the subject, I think he's trying to establish a Satanic world government on earth. Jesus will thwart him, though.

If the Lord decides who will rule over the land, is it a sin to vote?

I suppose we could say, God allows Satan to put people into power.

It just occurred to me that, unless I am mistaken, God did not want Saul to become king of Israel, but the Israelites demanded it, and God let them have their way. It is not what God wanted, and the Israelites have suffered enormously because of it, I think.
 
Deeper Bible study answers these type questions. God pointed to the Assyrian as a 'type' for Satan, and He called him "the rod of Mine anger" in Isaiah 10 (Isa.14 is a hard comparison between the Assyrian and Satan). In other words, God is using Satan as a punishing rod. God revealed that to His servants that discipline theirselves in His Word.

The very first sin was by Satan in coveting God's Throne for himself, and in wanting to be worshipped as God. So what do you think the very last major sin will be by Satan at the end of days? God revealed that in His Word also. But one won't find many Churches today that will, or are even are able to cover that point from God's Word. Many Churches today are too busy playing mind games with men's doctrines instead of getting into the 'strong meat' of God's Word. And even the lack of the "strong meat" in those Churches is part of that... working of a punishment upon those who listen to man instead of God in His Word (Isaiah 28).
 
Satan was given power to tempt Jesus. Also Adam. Praise God Jesus overcame that temptation, seeing he is our pattern son let us try to ovecome temptation. Temptation is not a negative thing; without tempatation we would be robots.

If He did not then there is a greater power then God and God is helpless against any and all evil.

Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid?

Satan is not Lucifer, this is a religious myth.

Yeah Satan is the same one as "Lucifer" in Isaiah 14 of the KJV. The KJV translators simply chose to use the word Lucifer which comes from the Latin instead of rendering the Hebrew as it is in the manuscripts. But the KJV translators did put an alternate rendering of 'O day starre' in the margin of the first edition Old English 1611 KJV.

Not understanding this is part the lacking of the "strong meat" of God's Word I was talking about.

If Isaiah 14 is read carefully and closely, God is using Satan's own words there to mock him. Satan wants to be The Morning Star, but that can't be, because only our Lord Jesus Christ is The True Morning Star per Revelation 22:16, as there's only one Morning Star, i.e., Jesus. And that's what we're supposed to understand there in Isaiah 14 when God uses Satan's own words to mock him. Now if some believe that Satan, or the name Lucifer (which is a direct pointer to Satan the devil), is a 'morning star', then they are deceived greatly.

[4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; (See Matt. 6:24)

[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

[7] Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

[8] Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

(Ok: A DAY. And look on further for the COMMAND! And as stated earlier God TALKED VERBALLY BY A VOICE UP UNTIL EXOD. 20. This is the first WRITING OUT of His VOCAL COMMANDMENTS on TWO Tablets of Stone!

AND: See the COMMAND that is below?? satan has ones teaching that this Sabbath will be in Heavens Zion as some lost ones [who are mature] are at present teaching it. If that were even a 'possibility' these saved saints would be on a SEVEN DAY WORKLESS ETERNITY OF 'USELESS' WELFARE ALONG WITH THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, [NOR (EVEN) THY STRANGER] THAT IS IN THY GATES.'

And at one time satan had many even in Saved Sincerity thinking that Sunday was Gods Sabbath, and now look what he has some trying to pass off for truth?? And if you can belive'ism that, you can be sold anything that Rome has to offer up by TEACHING THAT EVERY DAY IS TO BE KEPT AS THE 'REQUIRED' SABBATH OF THE LORD!)Dan. 7:25

[9] Six days [shalt thou] labour, and do all thy work: (and even today many are to lazy to even work at all!)

[10] But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

[11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

And here comes all of the Rev. 17:1-5 FRUIT OFFERINGS in about the most GARBLING of Babylon Confusion that has accured yet as predicted in Jude's MANY WINDS!!!

Every 7Th Day Sabbath is the MEMORIAL OF THEIR CREATION OF EARTH, [[FOR MANKIND!]] It IS EARTH'S [[BIRTHDAY!]] Psalms 135
[13] Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.
