What is the authentic New Testament text?

JM said:
Just wondering what ya'll thought on this topic.

There is none. What we have today, and since very early on, is a corruption. The text was altered when scribes included notes (commentary) which was mistakenly included into the text by later copyists. Also, there is evidence that some verses were intentionally manipulated to reflect the developing dogmas of the persons in control. This is a truth which cannot be considered by the average fundamentalist, as his faith rests upon the necessity that the scripture, especially the NT, is perfect and unchanged.

The King James Bible I hold in my hands. 8-)

BTW - When folks say that men changed verses to suit their fancies that tells me something.

1. These folks believe that God is powerful enough to inspire his word but not powerful enough to preserve his word.

2. These folks may want an excuse so when they stand before God and when God says, ‘Why didn’t you obey that verse?†Then they can say, “Well, so and so changed it so I am not accountable.†Sounds like Eve blaming God doesn’t it?

God bless

There's a good chapter @ this in the Alpha course book, 'Questions of Life' by Nicky Gumbel - many have seen the Alpha talks broadcast on http://www.God.TV etc

'More Evidence That Demands A Verdict', by Campus Crusade for Christ's magna cum laude genius, Josh McDowell, deals with it even more thoroughly & is probably still linked, as the classic it is, on http://www.ccci.org

There are @ 6000 copies of the original Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, to show the reliability of the text

There are only 4/6 copies of Homer's Iliad, & a similar number for other ancient texts that scholars accept as thoroughly authentic

As Gumbel, McDowell & many others have often said, there is more evidence for Jesus Christ than for Julius Caesar or any other figure of antiquity whose historical genuineness is never disputed by scholars

It's because God's Word pricks human pride & pomposity that 'the spirit of antichrist' - 2 Thessalonians 2 - engineers the 'Rebellion/Great Apostasy' prophesied there

2 Thessalonians 2 (New International Version)

The Man of Lawlessness

1Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come.

3Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

5Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

7For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Stand Firm

13But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings[c] we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

16May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Some manuscripts sin
2 Thessalonians 2:13 Some manuscripts because God chose you as his firstfruits

The Disciples Sent Out

And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

Mark 6:7-13 KJV

God bless all who take Him at His Word!

More truth from a man of God. How easy it is to determine a man of God from a man of satan.

Thanks AV.

As soon as I read brads statement I thought to myself. God can create the heavens and the earth from nothing. but he can't preserve his word. how :-D is this

It's not that God doesn't have the power. It's that He would be interfering with free will by not allowing humans to change the text.

Since when is it wrong for God to intervene? Where do you find in scripture that God cannnot intervene and overirde? The potter can do what he wants with the clay - it is his clay.

Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

again. God can create the heavens and the earth from nothing. but he can't preserve his word. how is this?? Satan himself has not been able to change the word of God and you think man can? Now I will admit that man/satan has got real close. You have the message that is a paraphraze but I do know a preacher who uses it to preach. There is also the JW version of a bible, the mormon version and I can continue.
