Sabbath Overseer
Wednesday 4-17-24 4th. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Nisan 8 5784 30th. Day of Spring

At creation, God set aside the seventh day to be a day of holy rest and worship for His image bearers. He appointed the Sabbath day to be a symbol of the promise of entering into His eternal rest in glory. Accordingly, the Sabbath command is both rooted in creation and directed to the new creation.

The Creator blessed the seventh day. (Genesis 2:3) He set apart (sanctified) the seventh day. (Exodus 20:11) The Sabbath is a memorial of creation. Every time we rest upon the seventh day, as God did at creation, we commemorate that grand event. (Exodus 20:11) It is also a sign between God and us that He sets us apart as His special people.

The sabbath was made for man means that God created the sabbath as a gift for humanity, to provide them with rest, renewal, and spiritual growth

The sabbath was not meant to be a burden or a duty, but a blessing and a joy.

Man was not made for the sabbath, as if God needed his service or obedience, but the sabbath was made for man, as a sign of God's love and care.

Greetings Walter and Debbie,
Accordingly, the Sabbath command is both rooted in creation and directed to the new creation.
The Gentile Christians are not under any obligation to keep the Sabbath. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the True Sabbath and we find our rest in him Matthew 11:20-25, Hebrews chapters 3 and 4.

Kind regards
Trevor

The Gentile Christians are under no obligation to keep the Sabbath and Circumcision and animal sacrifice many of the other Laws given under the Law of Moses and practised before and after the Law of Moses. Their duty is to follow and fulfill the way of life in Jesus, and find their rest in Jesus, the True Sabbath, the True Sacrifice, the True Circumcision..

Greetings again Walter and Debbie,
It is that our understanding we just don't rest in Him without keeping His commandments if we really love Him and follow His steps.

The following is a list of commands which form the basis of our life in Christ. Most were spoken directly by Christ; many were added for clarity by the writers of the epistles.

The Commandments of Christ
  1. Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you (Matt. 5:44).
  2. Resist not evil: if a man smite thee on one cheek, turn to him the other also (Matt. 5:30-40).
  3. Avenge not yourselves: rather give place unto wrath: and suffer yourselves to be defrauded (Rom. 12:18, 19).
  4. If a man take away thy goods, ask them not again (Luke 6:29, 30).
  5. Agree with your adversary quickly, submitting even to wrong for the sake of peace (Matt. 5:25; 1 Cor. 6:7).
  6. Labor not to be rich: be ready to every good work, give to those who ask; relieve the afflicted (1 Tim. 6:8; Rom. 12:13; Heb. 13:16; James 1:27).
  7. Do not your alms before men: Let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth (Matt. 6:1-4).
  8. Recompense to no man evil for evil: overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:17).
  9. Bless them that curse you; let no cursing come out of your mouth (Matt. 5:44; Rom. 12:14).
  10. Render not evil for evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise, blessing (1 Pet. 3:9).
  11. Pray for them that despitefully use you and afflict you (Matt. 5:44).
  12. Grudge not: judge not: complain not: condemn not (James 5:9; Matt. 7:1).
  13. Put away anger, wrath, bitterness, and all evil speaking (Eph. 4:31; 1 Pet. 2:1).
  14. Confess your faults one to another (James 5:16).
  15. Be not conformed to this world: love not the world (Rom. 12:2; 1 John 2:15).
  16. Deny all ungodliness and worldly lusts. If thy right hand offend thee, cut it off (Titus 2:13; Matt. 5:30).
  17. Servants, be faithful, even to bad masters (Eph. 6:5-8).
  18. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate (Rom. 12:16).
  19. Owe no man anything (Rom. 13:7,8).
  20. In case of sin (known or heard of) speak not of it to others, but tell the offending brother of the matter between thee and him alone, with a view to recovery (Matt. 18:15; Gal. 6:1).
  21. Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart (Matt. 22:37).
  22. Pray always; pray with brevity and simplicity; pray secretly (Luke 18:1; Matt. 6:7).
  23. In everything give thanks to God and recognize Him in all your ways (Eph. 5:20; Prov. 3:6).
  24. As you would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them (Matt. 7:12).
  25. Take Christ for an example and follow in his steps (1 Pet. 2:21).
  26. Let Christ dwell in your heart by faith (Eph. 3:17).
  27. Esteem Christ more highly than all earthly things; yea, than your own life (Luke 14:26).
  28. Confess Christ freely before men (Luke 12:8).
  29. Beware lest the cares of life or the allurements of pleasure weaken his hold on your heart (Matt. 24:44).
  30. Love thy neighbor as thyself (Matt. 22:39).
  31. Exercise lordship over no one (Matt. 23:11).
  32. Seek not your own welfare only, nor bear your own burdens merely, but have regard to those of others (Phil. 2:4; Gal. 6:2).
  33. Let your light shine before men: hold forth the word of life. Do good to all men as ye have opportunity (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:16; Gal. 6:10).
  34. Be blameless and harmless, as the sons of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Phil. 2:15).
  35. Be gentle, meek, kind-hearted, compassionate, merciful, forgiving (2 Tim. 2:24; Titus 2:2; Eph. 4:32).
  36. Be sober, grave, sincere, temperate (Phil. 4:5; 1 Pet. 1:13; 5:8).
  37. Speak the truth every man with his neighbor: put away all lying (Eph. 4:25).
  38. Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as unto the Lord, and not unto men (Col. 3:23).
  39. Be watchful, vigilant, brave, joyful, courteous, and strong (1 Cor. 16:13; Phil. 4:4; 1 Thess. 5:6-10).
  40. Be clothed with humility; be patient toward all (Col. 3:12; Rom. 12:12).
  41. Follow peace with all men (Heb. 12:14).
  42. Sympathize in the joys and sorrows of others (Rom. 12:15).
  43. Follow after whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseful (Phil. 4:8).
  44. Refrain utterly from adultery, fornication, uncleanness, drunkenness, covetousness, wrath, strife, sedition, hatred, emulation, boasting, vainglory, envy, jesting, and foolish talking (Eph. 5:3,4).
  45. Whatever you do, consider the effect of your action on the honor of God's name among men. Do all to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31; 3:17).
  46. Reckon yourselves dead to all manner of sin. Henceforth live not to yourselves, but to him who died for you, and rose again (Rom. 6-11; 2 Cor. 5:15).
  47. Be zealous of good works, always abounding in the work of the Lord, wearying not in well doing (Titus 2:14; Gal. 6:9).
  48. Speak evil of no man (Titus 3:2).
  49. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).
  50. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt (Col. 3:8; 4:6).
  51. Obey rulers; submit to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake (Titus 3:1).
  52. Be holy in all manner of conversation (1 Pet. 1:15, 16).
  53. Give no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully (1 Tim. 5:14).
The above is part of the literature of our fellowship and is attached to the second half of our standard Bible Reading Chart that has been in use for approximately 150 years. There is no mention of our need to offer animal sacrifices, be circumcised or keep the Sabbath.

There could be a tendency to become legalistic if we concentrate too much on each or any particular one of the above. A few of my favourite verses about the life in Christ:

Galatians 2:20 (KJV): I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 5:5–6 (KJV): 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Galatians 5:22–26 (KJV): 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Romans 8:1–4 (KJV): 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

From what source did you find this?

Greetings again Walter and Debbie,
From what source did you find this?
As I stated it has been part of our literature for about 150 years. It could have been issued as a separate booklet originally, but as Librarian for our meeting I have only seen it combined with our Daily Bible Reading Chart which takes us through the OT once and the NT twice every year.

We usually present the late teenage and other newly baptised with a hymn book, a leather bound "Bible Companion" which has the readings and the Commandments of Christ and another book of their choosing, often signed or written in by the members and friends who attended the baptism. It is my duty to have sufficient stocks of these items.

The items in the Booklet and the Bible Reading Chart were compiled by the Editor of one of our major UK magazines started in 1864 and this has been standard fare ever since. He became Editor when our major pioneer was getting older, and he had himself been the Editor of Four Series of magazines in the US, starting in 1834. Many of our speakers give their Sunday Exhort based upon the current Bible Reading or Readings. I have a leather covered copy in my nearly 60 year old Oxford Wide Margin Bible, but I have more recently used a Diary type Bible Reading Chart issued annually by an Australian magazine. We also have plastic bookmark style reading charts, located at the three daily readings.

Greetings again Walter and Debbie,

The following is a list of commands which form the basis of our life in Christ. Most were spoken directly by Christ; many were added for clarity by the writers of the epistles.

34 facts about the Sabbath - Bibleinfo.com

www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/facts-about-the-sabbath

The sabbath was made for man means that God created the sabbath as a gift for humanity, to provide them with rest, renewal, and spiritual growth

The sabbath was not meant to be a burden or a duty, but a blessing and a joy.

Man was not made for the sabbath, as if God needed his service or obedience, but the sabbath was made for man, as a sign of God's love and care.

Thankfully, we have the Spirit of Truth, which is the Spirit of grace dwelling within us to both teach us and empower us to do these things; to obey Jesus Christ, the object of our affection and desire.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 John 2:27

Be blessed today.

As I stated it has been part of our literature for about 150 years. It could have been issued as a separate booklet originally, but as Librarian for our meeting I have only seen it combined with our Daily Bible Reading Chart which takes us through the OT once and the NT twice every year.
Good morning Trevor, How are you all? Daily Bible Reading Chart What is the name of this? Is it a plan? and who is in charge? thank you, Interesting.

Greetings again Walter and Debbie,

The following is a list of commands which form the basis of our life in Christ. Most were spoken directly by Christ; many were added for clarity by the writers of the epistles.

Greetings again Walter and Debbie,
Daily Bible Reading Chart What is the name of this? Is it a plan? and who is in charge?
The following is a copy of "The Bible Companion" reading chart

or

The second of these is in a more common format, but different to our leather covered version with The Commandments of Christ included. No one is "in charge". It was compiled by Robert Roberts in his teenage years as a reading plan that covers the O.T. once each year and the N.T. twice each year. He prepared it for his own personal use, and others requested copies, and soon it became expedient to have it printed, and it has been standard in our community ever since.

If you look at the "readings" for today, April 21st, they are Deuteronomy 4, Proverbs 31 and John 15 & 16. Our senior exhorting brother has chosen John 15 this morning, and most probably will speak of the True Vine and our need to Abide in Him. Other speakers sometimes briefly speak on each of the readings, but others speak on a chapter that interests them or a theme - no set rules. With each household reading the same chapters each week, there is sometimes conversation or questions at our meetings about some feature of the previous week's readings.

Kind regards

Hello Trevor, I must look back at my notes, I used to be a member of The Christadelphians.org when they had the forums, it may not be the same organization, that was years ago, but Thank you.

I do not know about any such forum site. We do not have an "Organisation" as such, as each community is independent and autonomous and not subject to a central organisation or hierarchy. When I joined a popular forum 20 years ago, there had been the establishment of a forum called "Bible Truth Discussion Forum" and this was established by a few Australian members.

After a few years there was a major disagreement mainly on one topic and this forum was split into two forums, both Australian, the second called "Bible Discussion Forum". Both of these lasted a few years and then lapsed, mainly through other media becoming more popular.

Kind regards
Trevor
