mixed martial arts and brazilian ju jitsu. have you heard of the ufc? You've got me at a disadvantage Jason as I don't know what MMA or BJJ stand for. Maybe that also means that I probably lack the knowledge for my opinion to have any merit anyway.
i kinda know your position, but i will ask anyway. How do you teach them not use it in school given zero tolerance.I think it's great exercise, builds self esteem, and fun family time. Here are my boys. I teach in my home.

i should have known that. i asked for the reason that mma and bjj seems to have more of these trash talking teens that do start crap here. the forge kicks them out. Dan is big on that.Of course the size of these teens these days is scary. It's no different than teaching your kids not to fight at all. Their ability or training does NOT contribute to violent actions.

At the end they pay respects the the god of sushi or whatever it is they do.
i understand that but i will ask what the rules are for teens and so on mma. many kids that are high school wrestlers here also do mma. they train only.i know some mma matches in teens and amateurs may not have strikes to the face or gnp, at all.Jason,
I see that you see a difference in BJJ/MMA (brazillian jujitsu/mixed martial arts) and places that teach "karate" or tae kwon do.
I know the difference and you know the difference, but most people see a martial arte training environment and see,"karate," period.
Arts like BJJ/MMA and judo include greater physical contact and "live" training. There is a much more opportunity to get hurt or hurt someone else. There's also the full contact competition aspect of it.
NO, I don't think kids should compete in MMA at all. BJJ and judo is fine, but in those arts you do not ground and pound your opponent.
I stress to the boys the importance of self control, especially at school where there could be severe consequences for fighting. But, for outside of school and all other aspects I want them to know the three ranges of fighting, stand-up,clinch,and ground. This will better equip them to escape an attacker, defend themselves or protect themselves from being injured anywhere you put them.
