AV, What does Scripture mean by "the Kingdom of God"?
Well, Free, I have to be honest here – I believe I have a better understanding of the kingdom of heaven,as little as it is. Heaven is something you can see – it is the literal, physical kingdom on earth promised to Israel.
The kingdom of God, on the other hand, is a bit more vague. I see them both related though. One cannot see God so I’m assuming the kingdom of God is the more “spiritual†aspect of the two kingdoms. See verses below:
Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Can’t see it.
Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Doesn’t seem to be physical.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Connected with the Spirit.
Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Here is a good contrast between the physical and spiritual.
1 Cor 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
Associated with power – most likely the internal power from God.
That’s all I got – not much but it is something.
God bless
