I was struck by one of Quath's comments, that if God is real he would like a sign so that he would know it. I have a friend with a similar view - if God is real, He would (should) give her a sign.

My response to her was that maybe God was using me as a sign for her. She wants God to tell her He exists, He did, through me.

I would never suggest someone should believe just cause someone said it is true but it did make me think...

for those unbelievers out there - what kind of sign do you think it would take for you to believe? Does it have to be a booming voice from the clouds?

for Christians, what led to your conversion? was it a specific sigh (evidence, whatever) or a booming voice or what?

Your response to your friend was a good one indeed! :D

For me, it was hearing the word, over and over. It was also the evidence all around. I started equating all I heard with all I have seen around me; increasing lawlessness, deteriorating morality, etc. and the belief that all that was material around me was more than just an accident.

It led me to believe that we are hopeless and helpless without the Messiah to lead us out of this wicked place called Earth. 8-)

For proof, I would need either a lot of small evidence or a little huge evidence. It has to be something more than "Here is some mystery we haven't figure out, so there is God." It also has to be more than someone else's personal experience (since I have talked to people who have personal experiences of contradictory gods).

One simple thing would be for Jesus or an angel to come to Earth and clear up all the misconceptions. It would be nice to know which god and which version of God is suppose to be real.

A scientific test would be nice also. For example, someone picks a number and a person prays to God for the number. If they match, that is some proof for God. Or if faith healing is real, it would be nice to see someone grow back a limb or a missing eye.

lol

I wasn't looking for God, didn't want any evidence, couldn't care less about what Christians did or think... I don't like cooking and going to church was a total waste of time.
So what happens? One morning I find myself in a church cooking bacon for a men's breakfast and praising God that I was there.

At the least, I would probably need a real miracle to occur. The natural regeneration of a limb, someone returning from the dead, god appearing tangibly and demonstrating its power and knowledge. This is not foolproof, however. How would I differentiate god from a god-like alien with advanced technological ability. Maybe some very powerful race of aliens know how to cure death, blow up planets, time travel, predict the future. Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

So I do not know for sure what would leave no dought in my mind that god exists. That is a problem for me, but if there is a god that is omnipotent and omniscient that desires me to believe that he exists, he knows what would work, and could convince me anytime.

Hi dancing queen,

I was saved at such a young age, I don't know what it was exactly that compelled me...It must have been just the Holy Spirit drawing me. I just believed when I heard the Gospel, and I suppose for a child that may have been very easy. My dad was an atheist, but because he was such an open minded person he had no problem allowing me to go to church, or even taking me in those younger years. Over the years, though, I think it is only God's grace that has kept me believing, because my faith was challenged from time to time...especially in my early twenties. My dad also challenged my beliefs on a regular basis. I am not saying that it won't falter again, but I see the pattern of God strengthening it over the years, instead of allowing me fall away, or be lost in a pitfall. Now, I see evidence, an overwhelming amount, that points to God, and Jesus, and not just scientific. The Word obviously played a role in my salvation, and in my sanctification, but I am just now learning to know God more intimately through His Word, and trust Him to answer my prayers according to His will. I am learning how to try and see His Word as a tapestry of Christ, rather than a system or formula for me. I am a slow learner, I guess. :-D Good topic, dq.

The Lord bless you.

What a great topic!!!!...
It reminded me of a time when I was in Old Town Pasadena walking around and I came to a corner where there was a street preacher, preaching the Gospel for all its worth...These ''punk'' kids came up to him and started to make fun of him and one guy asked him...If God is real, I want to see a burning bush that speaks to me....( he said using bad words) The street preacher replied...God has already given you all the signs he will give you in the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus...He then went on to quote Luke ''If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead. "

As for me, I grew up in a bad area of town in ELA and during the summer when I was 9 years old my Mother would send me and my sisters to a Nazarene church for the daily events and field trips...This was an all Spanish speaking church...I spoke very little English anyway and there is where I started to hear the bible stories.....It was 3 years later that my Mother sent me to ELA light and life Christian school http://www.ela-lightandlife.org/
The School is a Free Methodist school / church....

It was there at the age of 12 that I got saved...It was also there that I met my Wife to be....Wow...My wife is the only Girl I have ever known :) ....

Anyway..I was also baptized that year and have been through some very good and very bad times, but the Lord has never failed me once....

When my wife and I had our first child, Cathryn...She too attended that little school from kinder garden until third Grade...It was then that we moved and so we put here in another Christian School...
