When I was saved many of my sins went away. But why not all of them? Why must I suffer the same old things that brought me pleasure at one time when now they are a wretched disease to my soul? Why did my ill will and my curses dry up and my flesh become more overbearing and cumbersome than ever?

Why would Jesus set a person free from some sin but not all sin, i.e sexual lust? Would it serve to keep a person contrite and humble if a person has lingering sin? Couldn't a lingering lust for sex possibly cause someone to walk completely away from Jesus and never seek Him again? Could sexual lust also breed the temptation to depart from the faith?

Does anyone have any answers for me? I really want to understand this.

It seems to me we shed the easiest sins first....it's a process. Jesus told us we need to forsake all and follow Him...that means anything that takes our eyes off Him. Easier said than done? Not really, because we can believe the truth of the Word that sin has no more dominion over us...only what we choose to allow.

Could it cause some to depart from the faith? It could, for a season, but for those who are truly God's children, He is more than able to keep us from falling away. His chastening is grievous, let me tell you. I'd much rather be buffeted by the world than fall under the chastisement of the loving God. He has promised never to forsake us....if you are His, He won't. Therefore you can prepare to be chastened if you don't obey. ;)

It helps to remember it's common to man....we're not called to battle temptation, but to take the escape route the Lord has provided us.
1 Corinthians 10:13 said:
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
The key, therefore, is to make no provision for the flesh.
Romans 13:14 said:
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Fill your mind with those things which edify.
Philippians 4:8 said:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
