Now all we need is an explanation as to why it left the ocean basins and sloshed out over the land. The continents were already here, of course, or there would be no land to live on. So they were above sea level just as they are now.

Maybe God changed the laws of physics so that water doesn't seek the lowest level?

If a giant asteroid hit and/or massive earthquakes hit then, that together with the firmament falling and the fountains of the deep gushing forth, could've presented the perfect storm of gargantuan sloshing to cover the earth for a time..no? Massive tsunamis everywhere?

It would probably feel like the sky was falling. It would be a horrific time for anyone not hunkered down in a cave. Tsunamis would not cover the continents, but would flood tens of thousands of square miles of land. Cubic miles of melted rock would be ejected into space, and would then rain down on the Earth, blanketing the land and seas with huge impacts.

I was also thinking a magnetic pole shifting causing massive earthquakes in the ocean floor in turn = tsunamis.

If you seriously want to know go to sit and research flood.

The planet earth is a dynamic planet. Tectonic plates are constantly moving, some plates going under others, other plates moving apart, or sliding along against each other.
It is believe that the continents once formed one large land mass surrounded by a sea.

That view agrees with the Bible. When the flood occured, we are told the fountains of the deep scripted and that it rained for forty days and nights. People will correctly tell you that the water cycle of evaporation and condencing/ precipitation will not work for forty days of rain, monsoon aside.
Even today it is known that there is water dissolved in rocks under great pressure and it was this that caused the fountains of the deep.

The water forming a global flood is not a problem. The problem is how was it got rid of.

The answer is in the sinking down of the tectonic plates that are under what are now where our oceans are.
This allowed the flood waters to stream off the land, causing the planation features, water gaps , undersea canyons, and cross continent transportation of material.

The evidence for a global flood is there if one is prepared to accept that as an explanation.

Tis is an explanation based on science not faith.

The problem is that the new crust is continuously being produced, and continents are not subducted, being less dense than oceanic crust. So there's been no significant change in continental areas. Nor would the oceanic crust form continents. Just physically not a possibility.
I was also thinking a magnetic pole shifting causing massive earthquakes in the ocean floor in turn = tsunamis.
The magnetic pole wanders around constantly, But it won't cause any tectonic movements. The Earth's magnetic field is much weaker than geologic forces, and does not cause tectonic movements. Rather, convection movements in the core of the Earth cause the Earth's magnetic field.

I did not say that the tectonic plate movement caused new continentals plates.
