Which Bible Verse are you going to pick?!

Quick question for you -

If you could give a non-believing friend a Bible with one verse or section highlighted - which verse or section would you highlight?

Thanks so much for your time!

If I could only give him one verse, this would be it.

Genesis 2:7 (Net Bible)
The Lord God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

If I could give him a whole section, it would be this.

John 1:1-14 (kjv)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Okay. Call me unoriginal, but I'd go with John 3:16:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

And I know you know. :D

I thought about John 3:16 too, but then I was torn because it was only one verse to an unbeliever. I suppose I thought, if an unbeliever doesn't believe in God, then he aint going to believe in His son so the possibility of the verse having much meaning to the unbeliever is almost mute in the setting of only being able to present one verse...

That being said, I think at one point in everyone's mind we all ask the question, "Where did all of this come from?" and "Who am I"? When we naturally ask and ponder these questions to ourselves, they are relational questions on how we view not only ourselves, but the entire world and universe that surrounds us. I think that's why I picked the verse I did.

hey, if you guys had a whole section of scripture, which section would it be? :D

Hi everyone,

If only one verse...verse 8, which is a lot like John 3:16, except that it mentions man's sin.

If only one passage this entire passage because it shows us how to be at peace with God, and hightlights God's grace. The Lord bless all of you.

Romans 5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Song of Songs 2:
8 Hark! my lover-here he comes
springing across the mountains,
leaping across the hills.
9 My lover is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Here he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattices.
10 My lover speaks; he says to me,
"Arise, my beloved, my beautiful one,
and come!

11 "For see, the winter is past,
the rains are over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of pruning the vines has come,
and the song of the dove is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree puts forth its figs,
and the vines, in bloom, give forth fragrance.
Arise, my beloved, my beautiful one,
and come!

14 "O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret recesses of the cliff,
Let me see you,
let me hear your voice,
For your voice is sweet,
and you are lovely."

The invitation in verses 10 and 13 gets me everytime and I would hope the one I shared that verse with would respond to such a beautiful invitation.

Matthew 26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

And ask God what that verse means

John 15
(and Jesus said)

I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in Me that does not bare fruit He takes away; and every branch that bares fruit He prunes, that it may bare more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch can not bare fruit itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, Bares much "Fruit'; for without Me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not abide in Me,he is casy out as a branch & is withered ; and they garther them and threw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words, "abide " in you, "You " will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
By this My Father shall be glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
As the Father has loved Me, I also have Loved you; abide in My Love.
If you Keep My commandments, you will abide in My Love, just as I have kept My Fathers' commandments and abide in His Love.
These things I have spoken to you, that My Joy may remain in you and that your Joy may be full"

I also like John 3:16 that's wonderful verse to bring people to God as well.
