hey all.
i was just wondering if anyone else is as obsessed with the new 'charlie and the chocolate factory' movie as i am!?!

i can't wait for it!! 10 more days i am so excited!!!
all my excitement could have something to do with my appreciation for johnny depp and my love for the original 'willy wonka and the chocolate factory'.
but anyway let me know what you think!!

I’m wouldn’t get my hopes up, all I’ve heard about the Tim Burton version happens to be that it differs entirely from the original… and I’m personally, while I shall have to admit he has superb acting talents; I’m not a fan of Johnny Depp, which I realize sounds irrational but you can only hear cabals of females screaming about how much they desire to do him so many times before… (Although in this movie I didn't realize that was him when I first saw the trailer... I thought it was a female  )

i really don't think it will be as dark as the original version but i do really appriciate johnny depp and not just because he is gorgeous.
and i really like most of Tim burtons work so i am really looking forward to it !!! 8-) he doeslook like a girl now that i think of it but he is still perfect for the charater (only second to Gene Wilder) :D i can't wait and i will be there next friday night!!!!
:-D

If it is like the origional I think Johnny Depp is miscast. I see someone like jim carrey playing the character, but not really depp. He was great in pirates of the carribean, but this movie doesn't really call for a feminine pirate. :-D

From my understadnding, this film is going to be a bit closer to the original nature of the book. If so Depp is an excellent choice for playing the character.
The book had a much darker tone then the first film and JD does have the acting ability to pull off a much darker, more demented character.

I think Johnny Depp is an excellent actor and I like Tim Burton's dark slant on most of his movies, so I'll probably watch it. Although from the previews it appeared to me that Charlie is a bit too femanized. When I heard him talking, Michael Jackson was the first person I thought of. I never had that impression of Charlie when I read the books as a kid.

i'm still really excited And i'm going to be there tomarrow night with some of my friends. it will be a bunch of girls there so i'm sure it will be fun. i have already got the ring tone, like the 'willy wonka' song on the commercial so it's just about 32 more hours roughly. i can't wait.
okay maybe I AM a little obsessed but it will go away after i've seen it about thirty MILLION times. !!!! :D

okay i saw it friday night with 5 other girls and it was amazing. the oompa-loompas were awesome and it was so funny. johnny did just fine and i recomend it for any one who likes humor and willy wonka. it was alot closer to the book. i haven't read it but my friend has basically memorized the book and she said it was alot more accurate to the book. minus the whole flashback thing. but it was amazing and i was not disappointed.

I saw it this weekend also. I would say that I like the Gene Wilder version better. That version was a little scarier and more intense. Johnny Depp is eerily like Michael Jackson. It makes you glad the guardians are with the children in the tour. :)

-----------------------SPOILERS-------------------------

I thought the movie should have gone in a more interesting direction. There was a lot of play at the beginning about the oompa-loompas being too prepared for failure. Also, there seemed to be some strong emphasis on the goggles in the TV room. It almost seemed like it was going somewhere with those concepts.

One thing I really missed rom the other movie was that each child had to face their weakness. So everything was a test in which all children failed but Charlie. He was poor and his test was to see if he would betray Willy for money. That was a great lesson from the movie. Charlie was lucky AND had what it took.

---------------------END SPOILES-------------------------

I thought it was an ok movie. I think the kids will really like it, but for me, I think I will stick to the older movie.

Willy Wonka: You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing. You lose. Good day sir.

Grandpa Joe: You're a crook. You're a cheat and a swindler. How could you do a thing like this, raise up a little boy's hopes and then dash all his dreams to pieces? You're an inhuman monster.

Willy Wonka: I said good day.

Everyone I've talked to that has seen it said it was awful. There is only ONE Willy Wonka and Johnny Depp is NOT him!

I don't think it was awful--I probably would have enjoyed it had I never seen the Wilder version, but since I have I agree that this just doesn't come close to having the magic of the original.

I enjoyed this film, and the Wilder version also. They both have some things that the other doesn't have.

The original was darker, more mysterious, focused more on the moral, than for entertainment.

This version is obviously updated with the special effects, and had a backstory to Wonka.

I would like to see pretty much the two films being combined. And maybe a very few ideas taken out.

It was pretty good, but I grew up with the Gene Wilder version so it took some getting used to.
