Who Leaned on Jesus? -- Nothing to do with Da Vinci

(NIV)
John 13:23-25 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means." 25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"

John 21:20-23 Peter turned and saw that the disciple that Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and said, "Lord who is going to betray you?") 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" 22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die...

Who was the disciple whom Jesus loved and who leaned against him at the supper? I have the NIV Study Bible and it does not speculate who it is. Have scholars speculated as to who it is?

I have a far fetched idea, but I want to here what people have thought before I post it here.

Trained in interdenominational evangelical Bible Colleges, I can tell you that pretty well all New Testament scholars say it was John, who wrote the Gospel, the 3 Epistles of John & Revelation - & that there was nothing homosexual about it

When I saw the question, I thought it was about the Da Vinci painting of the Last Supper, as other readers may

I've read & seen many reviews of the book, who point out that all the 12 disciples are in the picture & that it's John, not Mary Mag, on Jesus' right

John was the youngest, & convention among the Florentine school of painters was to portray young men looking a bit effeminate

All 12 are grouped in equally conventional triangle formations, to draw the eye to the central figure: Jesus

I knew someone would think I was refering to the Da Vinci code, but I wasn't. Maybe I should have worded the title a little better, but I dont refer to the paintings of Da Vinci when studying the Bible.

Along with these verses another one caught my eye that made me think that the man "whom Jesus loved" was Judas.

I don't believe the hype of the Gospel of Judas, but I have read verses that are kind of obscure that make me think Jesus loved Judas a little bit more because he would play a major part in fulfilling prophecy.

The discussion of Judas has the potential to be a long one, but I don't believe he was such an evil man as many think. He did soemthing in order for Gods plan to happen therefore I think he was a tool of God just as much as Mary was.

Again I forget where the other verse was, but I can try to find it.

oh and I did not think it was a homosexual thing either.

Another reference.
I don't think that would be Judas.

John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
John 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Thanks for replying....

So which disciple took Mary into his home?
