Who Wants To Be A Superhero?

Sci-Fi Channel has a reality show called "Who Wants To Be A Superhero."

I had not watched a single episode until tonight.

The theme of the show is noted comic book creator Stan Lee has to choose between a number of contestants all vying to be the next hero to be featured on a Dark Horse Comic Book.

The heroes have to go through various challenges and are eliminated based on their performance.

There were 4 episodes tonight. The fourth episode had the 3 remaining heroes, Fat Momma, Feedback and Major Victory, standing on red illuminated cubes facing their judge, Stan Lee. Needless to say, all three had worked hard to be in the winner's circle and they had their own motivations.

Fat Momma wants to prove to her children that she is more than just a mother, although that is challenge enough.

Feedback grew up in a sad environment. His father killed himself when Feedback was a small child. His role model was the Stan Lee created character Spiderman.

These were all compelling stories; all but the most touching was yet to come.

Major Victory was eliminated during tonight's competition. It was sad but he felt confident that he'd done his best and was congratulating his worthy opponents who were now dear friends.

For reasons he mentioned but I had missed because I only saw the show tonight he had become an exotic dancer in San Francisco after getting into a bad divorce. His daughter, humiliated by the circumstance had moved to Seattle with her mother and refused to speak to him for several years. He had repeatedly attempted to contact her but to no avail. After he removed his cape and they had the ceremonial removal of him from the show Stan Lee said, "Major Victory behind the cube where you normally stand there is a telephone... on the line is your daughter."

He was choked with tears. He picked up the phone and heard, "Daddy, is that you"

"Yes it is baby. I'm here crying and I don't know what to say."

"Daddy, don't cry. I love you daddy."

"I just don't know- I love you baby. I just wanted you to be proud of me."

"I am proud of you daddy, don't cry."

"I love you baby, I love you and miss you so much. Let's talk more in private because I have so much to say."

And then he walked away from the show and into a more heroic life.

If you have someone to call and say "I love you" or "I'm sorry" please make that call. You may be a hero too.

Fat Momma, not Major Victory, should have been kicked off.

I thought so too but I can understand Stan Lee's reasoning.
