3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.

He persecuted the Hebrew Christians in Israel. The word "congregation" was replaced with the word "church." The word "church" was a Roman voting place for political gatherings of the Roman people.
