Second letter of John is the smallest book in the bible according to the number of verses. In this letter, John explains the cycle of truth, emerged from the love and obedience, which expresses itself again as love. It also reiterates that the ultimate teaching of Christ is unconditional Love of God to human which is the truth and our obedience to God can only be fulfilled by the expression of divine love to others. Establishment of Jesus Christ's kingdom can only be achieved by the teachings and Love of Christ.
What is the difference between Christianity and other religions? Or what is the uniqueness of Christianity and other religion? C S Lewis, famous thinker and writer had very straight forward answer. He quotes it “Oh, that’s easy. It’s grace.” The grace of our God because of his unconditional Love towards us. As we are called out as Christians, we ought to abide in the doctrines and teachings of Jesus Christ than anything else. We cannot simply eliminate Christ from Christianity. He rendered us the fulfillment of God's commandments and His commandment is very specific. "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you" (John 15:12). If we do not try to obey the commandment of Christ, simply we are not the part-takers of His holy Kingdom. It is important to understand that the salvation through Christ cannot be achieved by performing some rituals, but by a try to live according to the teachings of Christ and Love others. This is the presage foretold to us through the prophet Jeremiah "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people" (Jeremiah 31:33). Jesus Christ explained Love not as an emotion, but in fact a character.
The word of God warns us "Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines" (Hebrew 13:9). John, in his second letter was bold enough to state that "If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them" (2 John 1:10).
In the midst of various philosophies and divisive doctrines of the world and even the doctrinal differences within Christians, the only thing which holds true is the teachings of Christ. We should therefore try to interrogate ourselves whether we are trying to abide in the understandings of Jesus Christ's teachings and live in Him.
