Why did God Create Us With Freedom of Choice?

When I dig deep enough into this question, I don't come up with any answers.
Are we in the middle of a battle between God and Satan?
If so, why did God put us in the middle?
And the questions keep coming in my mind?
How about you?
Do you think about these things too?

Yup I sure do.
I find myself someplace in the TULIP garden looking for the gardener. :)

Rev_13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

God has always had thee plan, for my self I except that on faith because if I don't I too wont come up with any answers. :)

Love. In order to have true love you must have the ability to say no.

Grazer is spot on. An analogy to go well with it is the Fembot. The Fembot is absolutely perfect. She is gorgeous, kind, mild mannered, graceful, a delicious cook, fun, attentive.... but it is all programmed in. The only choice is whether she thinks you want mayo on your sandwich or not. It is that choice to run away that Fembot can't make, so she also can't chose to stay with you. Her value is only measured by what she can do for you, not her choice to be with you over anything else. This is the prodigal son story. That is the triumph of his return. He saw the world and decided to return back to his root. He knows what he walked away from, and I imagine that is the tougher thing to do. Choice is what gives people value and what makes love possible.

Hi allenwynne,

I think Grazer makes a great point, that we would love God. But on the flip side of the coin, we should learn that without God, there is nothing good in us. We were created in His image, but without His Spirit in us, without our trust in Him, we are not able to love God. Adam and Eve were made perfect, without sin, but we see they didn't love God as they should have. Why did God create us with the freedom of choice? To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

To some extent, yes.

If so, why did God put us in the middle?
That is one of many questions I've never found an answer to.

As to "Why did God create us with freedom of choice?" - I have an answer, in the form of a question.

Would you want to live any other way? I'm sure the garden was a wonderful place, but even Eve (certainly) and perhaps Adam didn't want to live like that.
I say this because they (apparently) didn't live that way very long (we have no idea HOW long).

I have many such questions myself. I pretty much gave up looking for answers many years ago.

So, did God really put us in the middle of a battle between Him and Satan?
Was His purpose to test us with free will?
Is there no other way to test us with free will?
Has He made people on other planets without the temptation of Satan and still given them free will?
Has He made people elsewhere without the temptation of the sins of the flesh?
Do angels have free will?
If so, do angels in heaven still have the choice to choose against God?
What are Gods' plans?
What else is He up to?

I don't think God did it deliberately, its how its ended up and God is using it for his purpose.

When I read Job, I see God deliberately allowed Satan to afflict him, but I would agree that God uses evil to serve His purposes.

We should come to the place at some point that it is only by God's grace that we can come to love Him. Without Him, we would hate God.

God gave us free will because he knew an intelligent being would eventually act on it. In other words, he knew that if only one option existed, then only one option could be chose. However; because he had given us two options (obey or disobey), we became "like them." When we build computers, do we not program them? Do we not tell them what to do? How to operate? If we gave a computer free will, would it then no longer be a computer? but instead, would be an intelligent being with the ability to love us, and share intelligent thoughts based upon their OWN will. A computer without free will cannot fulfill our emotional void, but a being that can love us back will fulfill the void.

Gen 3:22 - "Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil."

This verse is clear in saying that the Angels had free will long before we existed. My theory is this. At one time, Angels had the ability of free will. This was the defining event of disobedience, just like us! Satan was cast out, along with his followers. However; at this point in time, I believe God REVOKED their ability to free will. Just like how when we die and go to heaven, we will no longer sin! In other words, we experienced free will/good and evil, and have it revoked without losing our intelligent being status! We don't forget our life on earth, and we certainly won't forget that we chose God over everything else.

Just an idea though :). I don't believe there are any verses that says Angels no longer have free will, but how could Heaven be without sin otherwise? If we had free will in heaven for eternity, would we not eventually rebel? Adam and Eve did, even though they walked with God!

Can you find another way to say this? It sounds conflicting.

Fedusenko,

A person who is saved knows that he didn't save himself or impress God to do anything for him. It wasn't because we love God that God showed any favor to us. Before we come to know God, we do everything sinful under the sun. One of the heights our sins is when we call ourselves Christians, yet we don't repent or put our trust in Him. Look at the world today. They hate the Jesus of the Bible because He is exclusive. The cross tells the whole world they are sinners, and the world hates that message. When a person repents and puts his faith in Jesus, he knows it was nothing less then God's grace and mercy. We love Him because He first loved us.

While Fembots may not be the best way to describe God's decision to allow man to choose, it was the best I had at the time. You make a good point in saying that God loves us because he loves us. That is where my analogy fails. God doesn't love us more because we choose Him, but it is us who loves Him more because He allows us to choose. It is the same with the prodigal son. The father loves him just as much at the son's return as his departure. The change is in the son and not the father, a shadow of the depth of Yhwh's love. Thanks for the discerning eye.

Allow me, if you will.

I am a big "critical thinker" who tries to keep an open mind, and looks at the bigger picture when it comes to religion. I've often thought on the subject of free will and what it means. I firmly believe that God gave humans freedom of choice [free will]. The question of "why" can only be answered with speculation and theory.

1. One way of reasoning is what others have already touched on: true love. He set us free, and hopes that we will find our way back to Him on our own, instead of serving as automatons. What is the old saying..."If you love someone, set them free. If they come back to you, they are your's forever!"

2. Another is that He created all the beings, to include the angels in Heaven. Instead of having biological lifeforms on a planet copying what already takes place in Heaven, He wanted to experiment on earth. We might be His big chemistry set! Yes, this is a stretch...but again, we only have theory and speculation. However, this theory needs further exploration b/c there are 2 trains of thought on angels: they do not have free will. They do have free will, and it is why Satan and 1/3 rebelled. This will need to be its own thread.

3. The deism version is that God created everything, gave us free will to make our own choices (set us free), and has moved on without looking back. I personally do not believe in this theory, but it is a fairly popular one, so I included it.

4. Another theory of why He did it is very simple: because He can, and doesn't owe us an explanation.

My personal view is that He gave us free will, hoping that we would come back to Him (favors #1). He won't interfere with our choices, but longs for us to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. The flipside is that this theory explains why bad things happen to good people: people make the CHOICE to do something bad.

I think Bible explains why Bad things happen to good people or vice versa. I see the core message of Bible is Love and John clearly says God is Love.Prerequisite for Love is unlimited freedom or unconditional choice and no onecan argue with that. Grace to some extent is free choice with no binding. The problem with the free will is that it also allows evil things. It appears God had to restrain himself by not getting even with the evil; the very act wouldhave killed freedom. As we know Freedom is expensive but well worth it. God knew it well.

If so, why did God put us in the middle?

To understand this, one needs to know that, there was an age before the one we are in now......It was in the first one that satan rebelled, contrary to what people think, satan was not always evil.....
