God kind of compelled Jonah to go to the great city. Jonah was like...you know they wont agree - they wont listen.

He was being stubborn and wanted to escape. God stopped him. HE used a fish. Reluctantly he delivered the message to the people.

However God went ahead to destroy the city...I think it was destroyed several years later, and Jonah was already dead.

I believe God sent Jonah to warn them so that no one would have any excuse: 'I didnt hear', 'I wasnt told/warned...' etc.

I find the story interesting - although I feel so bad the stubborn city chose to perish.

Jonah could not run away from God. It was he also wanted the city to be destroyed...kinda. Dunno.

that city was judged because they didn't stay from that sin. im sure its listed of why they were judged.

Nah 3:4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
Nah 3:5 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

the modern day assyrians are mostly Christians.
