why do forums allow bots?
they could be blocked from the forums
and may be copying every key stroke for some one to look at
 
Some of them are blocked, and it is not like they are "allowed" per se, but more likely they go unnoticed for a while before they are able to be blocked.

Sometimes bots will boost webtraffic stats, which can either positively or negatively affect a sites ranking among search engines.
