Why does God hate pride?

Why?

I'll be honest, I don't like that I have to constantly remind myself how low, servile, selfless I am supposed to be.
Why do you associate an attitude of servitude, selflessness, caring, humility, loving, kind, and considerate, etc. along with "low?" Maybe I answered my own question. Being prideful would tend to make one abhor the idea of lowering oneself off of the pedestal he have placed himself. Being prideful one would see these characteristics mentioned above as lowly and belittling and a threat to one’s self-esteem. Pride leads to the opposite of all these attitudes and... <O:p</O:p

  • Servitude becomes selfish, dictatorial, and demanding. <O:p</O:p
  • Selflessness becomes egocentric, and self-centered<O:p</O:p
  • Caring becomes cruel, heartless, and disrespectful. <O:p</O:p
  • Humility becomes haughty and arrogant. <O:p</O:p
  • Loving becomes cold-hearted, aloof, indifferent, and hateful. <O:p</O:p
  • Kind becomes mean, nasty, and rude. <O:p</O:p
  • Considerate becomes thoughtless, insensitive, and careless. <O:p</O:p

I struggle with pride. Pride is probably where Satan has his greatest influence on me. I am often arrogant and sometimes don’t even notice it of myself. I struggle to surrender completely. I need to pray about this a whole lot more than I do now. I need to seek God’s help with my pride. I thank you for posting this.

When Jesus told us that pride is a sin, I don’t think he was telling us to have a bad opinion of ourselves. I think he was telling us to treat others with respect.

Kind of what I was trying to say too. Being humble does not imply having low self-esteem. Actually, I think it becomes quite the opposite with more of a humble confidence and contentment that comes with knowing where you are in life and where you are going rather than being down because you are more concerned about what you think you are giving up.

God particularly hates the sin of pride because it is the basis of all sins. It was the first sin ever committed and that was by Satan.

Here is the base of all sin, and pride is the origin:

1 John 2:16 Amplified
For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one's own resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].
