Bible Study Why must we forgive?

We must be merciful, just as our Father is merciful (Luke. 6:36), because, He is our God. If we truly are followers of Christ, we too will forgive as He does (Eph 4:32). He forgave by sacrificing His life for those who betrayed Him, were unfaithful to Him and killed Him.

We must forgive or stay in separation and sin.

Matthew 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you:

Matthew 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will
your Father forgive your trespasses.

We are commanded to love our neighbor as ourselves. Without forgiveness, there can be no love.

Forgiveness is mentioned a lot in the new testament. Jesus told many parables about this.
One thing I wonder though, although I always forgive others, even if they don't ask;is a person required to forgive, even when the person [they are forgiving] is not sorry?

Yes even then. Forget about any satisfaction of righteousness,
just think how it affects YOUR relationship with God. If you keep
any unforgiveness in your heart, you heart remains darkened.
Just a little, do it a few times and it will add up.

Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will
your Father forgive your trespasses.
