Why We Use The King James Version of the Bible

I look over at my beloved tear-stained, "war" torn NIV Bible -- the Word of God that has brought me through times of severe trial and suffering -- and I think, how could God have used this supposedly "corrupt" version of His Word to comfort, guide, teach and correct me when all else in the world failed? It's impossible to believe that my beloved Bible could be a tool of satan (ref. the last article you link to). The thought of it makes my skin crawl. And worse, now every time I open my beloved Bible from now on, doubts may begin to creep in. Now tell me, please, wouldn't satan just love for me to never open it again? Or, even better, *shudder* for me to follow the advice of the last article you link to and destroy it???

I smell a conspiracy theory and it stinks.

I prefer the KJV for style but I have some other versions such as the NASB, NLT, ESV, and the NKJV.

Jo Jo, remember I said in my last post, that other translations have saved lives. because many won't read the KJV, because they don't understand it. The Lewis of today will not tell you to get rid of your NIV, a few years ago I would have. But there is a lot wrong with it, and then there is a lot of right with it ,because not everything is corrupt but you know what they say, if one part is corrupt :shrug

To be honest, none of the arguments I've read have convinced me that any of the NIV Bible is corrupt.

Don't feel bad, JoJo. I can't say I know much about the history of the NIV or it's accuracy, but I know of Christians who grow in the Lord by using it. :-)

I prefer the KJV, but I like some other versions as well. I used to have an NIV but I loaned it to a friend and never got it back. Perhaps it has helped my friend and I pray he is saved.

Which edition of the KJV is corrupt and which one is the Holy one? I'm afraid I might be reading the wrong one.

good point.... Matthew 12:25-26 (ESV) [25] Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
[26] And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?"

If the NIV is "of Satan" then his kingdom is definitely divided against itself, and, as Jesus implies, this just doesn't make sense...

blessings,
ken

Emotional attachment and/or a desire for certainty in the texts we base much of our faith upon is understandable. However, we cannot use this as a means to argue in favor of the authenticity and/or purity of the text.

My reliance on Scripture is more than an "emotional attachment." My argument in favor of the authenticity and/or purity of the text is earlier in this thread and in another thread. Have you read this explanation? http://www.ibsstl.org/niv/background.php

I was being sarcastic :)

So was I. :-)

I love the KJV for memorization and for copywork for the children. When I read and mediate on the word, I use my KJV. When I am doing a specific study I read my KJV first, but for comparison I love the ESV. The Lord bless all of you.
