Will Christians one day decide to not use the internet?

I'm of the opinion that the time is coming when some Christians will choose to not use the internet for the same reasons they are now not watching television. Even on Christian websites you can't escape our cultural preoccupation with physical attraction and sexuality.

Generally speaking, the internet is a marketing tool. And marketers draw you in with the teaser ads full of provocatively dressed (and undressed) people, and provocative subjects that line the side bars of the websites you go to. And it seems even Google search and YouTube use the tactic to ruin even the most innocent of searches. Why are pictures and videos popping up that have nothing to do with what I'm searching? To draw me in, of course.

I see the day when I'll say 'enough is enough' and the internet will cease to be a source of casual information gathering and entertainment for me.

I don't think so, mostly because I don't know a single Christian who has stopped watching TV. That is besides the decent sized mennonite body nearby...

Actually, there are some on this forum who have stopped watching TV because of it's content. I'm one of them. Over time there were fewer and fewer programs that I could watch without being conscience stricken, and then TV became my source of news and information. But for $80.00 a month it wasn't worth it.

But apart from us Christians who have rejected TV it is sad that Christians in general have not rejected TV programming that directly and flagrantly endorses and glorifies non-Christian moral principles.

Being 68 years old raised in Pentecostal churches...i can remember the grown-ups talking... Christian people in 50s started backing out of public life... Dont bother rapture is soon.. My parents discussing higher education for us kids .. again dont bother rapture will be soon..
Most every thing said was framed by "Should the Lord tarry" .

I now have a greatgrand son :) I pray we get involved ....

Luk_19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

What does an army do while occupying? They do not roll over and play dead

Don't give up Jethro, Jesus hung around the prostitutes and tax collectors because they knew they needed salvation.

Ah I didn't realize that, come to think of it there's a young mother at my Church who doesn't watch TV, but that is mostly because she hates commercials, she has a Netflix account. Personally I reject any TV programming that glorifies non-Christian moral principles by not watching it. I enjoy the Big Bang Theory and the Walking Dead though they're defined by some as immoral shows. Paul used the logic and culture of the Greeks to convince the Greeks(Acts 17:23 ESV), in the same way in many shows I watch I can see the classic struggle between good and evil either dramatized(the Walking Dead) or turned into comedy(the Big Bang Theory), using these shows as a basis I can bring God into some conversations that otherwise I wouldn't be able to. Though lets be serious here, I mostly watch those shows for my own enjoyment.

As an added bonus I've watched Noah, and while it is a terrible representation of the Biblical account(and a terrible movie to boot) it opens many avenues for a Christian to discuss. Exaggerated parts of the Bible in Noah(like the Nephilim being clumsy rock monsters existing for the sole purpose of comedic relief from a terrible movie) bring God into a conversation about popular culture, and wherever two or three are gathered in His name, He is there with them.(Matthew 18:20)

this has to be a personal decision, it has its drawbacks as well. it would be hard but not impossible to not have smart phones or internet access to conduct business. banks will soon not have tellers.

that said, imagine what the youth would do without the internet. die!

I think one of my aunts and cousins already do this. They don't have the Internet at home, they go to the library to use it when needed.
If the Internet wasn't such a practically necessary thing these days (you do everything from school to paying bills online), it would probably be a good idea to not have it just because it's such a huge distraction.

I don't watch TV either, don't even own a TV. I also use ad blocker and use the internet to check the news and waste time here talking with folks that don't agree with me. I also have a Blog I need to get going and a forum I made that I need to get promoting since it's all set up with chat rooms, shout box and all kinds of stuff.

Why stop using Internet altogether? If it's bad you just don't watch/read, use ad blocker; it can be a good source of information and communication.

I've stopped watching news stations and hearing news altogether because of the media the agenda of said media. It's annoying and frustrating. I've even stopped using Facebook due to the excess of people pushing their opinions everywhere yet are offended when someone speaks the truth.

I agree that some will get to the point where TV and Internet will not be used or watched due to the content that is now socially acceptable. Sad to see what it's coming too.

I had internet for about a year there but it was way to pricy to watch videos and when I got back to an isp that freed me up to watch what I want, I saw a big difference in youtube and what was allowed there.

I guess it took practice for me to not get drawn in to certain things and some I still do (mild things) but know better, but generally, at least thus far, I deal with it pretty well and don't see a time when I will stop. There are just too many good things about it.

I'm sure some have already restricted themselves and others will in the future.

Agree. If something is shoved in my face and i dont like it i just ignore it or shut the page down. Just because i see something offensive that gets shoved in my face does not mean im sinful. Just ignore and move on.

Sometimes pop ups happen, just because we see it for a second doesn't mean we sin. It happens. The Internet is a great place to get better knowledge, meet people and have some fun!

Sometimes you cannot help what you see as its just there.

It goes like this.

See once, innocent. Look twice, guilty.

Living in a rural area, the internet is an equalizer. For instance my grandson's Christian homeschool. When his mom was home schooled I had to use the materials sent to us, which was fine. But I am not a certified school teacher. Now with her son, the same school has online classes with a certified teacher and I just moderate, act as a teacher's aid and tutor if need be. It's a whole lot less stressful for me because I know that he is being taught correctly and I can take my lead from his teacher.
