Windows 8

No, it's not a misprint. Windows 7 is coming out in eight days, but for those of you who are REALLY ahead of the curve, here's the latest on the next operating system:

1) MS insists that they will stick to their timetable of not releasing Windows 8 until 3 to 5 years after Windows 7.

This makes sense. Not even MS can accurately predict what advances in computer hardware will take place in the next few years.

2) The development team is already assembled and has been at work for a several months now.

This also makes sense. Once 7 had everything but a few improvements, MS didn't need all those experts working on it anymore.

3) Speculation: 8 will be designed for 128-bit computers. It will not work on 32-bit systems.

While only speculation, it makes sense. 32-bit is obsolete, and an OS that can operate on that wide a range will have stability problems. The real question is will there be a 64-bit version? Some tech sites say that the gap will be too great, and that it will only be 128-bit.

They were pretty excited on the tech forums today. It seems that a high-level research official at MS talked too much on his blogsite. He says that they are working on the kernel of a 128-bit Operating System for both Windows 8 and Windows 9. Right now, no computer in the world can run such a system. Technical writers agree that such a system could run most 64-bit hardware and software, suggesting that MS will not develop a 64-bit version of Windows 8.

Tempers are flaring on some tech sites. It appears that Windows 8 will be designed for 128-bit computing and will TRY to be backwards compatible with 64-bit software. It also looks like MS wants to have a 64-bit version of Windows 8.

32-bit computing is going the way of the floppy disk. If you still have a working 32-bit computer in 2012, either Windows XP or Windows 7 will run it just fine.

Time for a friendly warning. Various sites are offering free Windows 8 wallpapers. And one site is selling a Windows 8 pre-alpha version.

All of these are fake. Microsoft is still in the research and development phase. They do not have ANY version of Windows 8 prepared, and if they did, no computer in the world can run a 128-bit operating system.

MS recently posted some new job opportunities. They want someone to help them integrate third-party programs into the Windows 8 OS. They want someone else to tighten the integration between Windows Live and both Windows 7 and 8.

Folks, there is just no honor among thieves. Someone had tweaked Windows 7, found a way to illegally install it on multiple computers, and then put it up for sale as the "Pre-Alpha Version of Windows 8."

Someone else then posted it for free on a pirated software site.

You just can't trust a crook.

Grrr...I'm happy with my 32-bit computer! I can see that in 2012 it may be realistic for MS to design Windows 8 for 64-bit and try and backwards compatible with 32-bit, but going to 128-bit i think is way too big a jump...for now.
But in the meantime...Windows 7 looks awesome, and I"ll be getting Linux Ubuntu soon as well..so I 'm happy for now. :)

The 128 bit story went down the tubes a couple of months ago. If Windows 8 were really going to be 128 bit, they would be working on developing 128 bit software right now. No one is.
