Windows XP, Home And Pro Performance Boosting

Do you have obscene amounts of RAM? Do you want to make the very best use of it all? There are tens of thousands of websites offering performance tweaks for XP and you could spend the next week or more researching the ones you might like to perform, or you can save yourself a lot of bother and read this article. There are hundreds of XP tweaks, but you only need the half a dozen listed here to obtain a significant performance boost. The rest of the tweaks afford only minor and often indiscernible performance benefits.

Comments from visitors who have employed these tweaks are included at the end of the page. http://kadaitcha.cx/performance.html

I use the tweaks from Blackviper on every pc I install Xp on. For me this makes tech questions fewer from those who still use Xp.

Though last time I checked he was offline again. So I guess it's a good thing that I downloaded the PDF.

You might want to do some reading about BV's advice from some informed MS tech's and assess the facts again.

Let me know what ya think about BV's "guidance" after your threw reading.

The best site advice I've seen for XP can be found @

BV is a moron. I think he knows it. There's no way he didn't get a message by now. Thousands of angry people who DO have a clue must have e-mailed him over the years. He is keeping the site up because pulling it would mean admitting that he's an idiot and losing face. It is an ego thing.

I always thought that he was a kid. He's 32! He must be a bigger moron than I thought!

Oh....btw, here's his recommendations for XP.

and much more accurate and detailed information about securing services and Windows in general can be found at microsoft.com.

Now that is funny. I mean you have got to be kidding me.

Well, all I can say is, I hope you never follow any advice found on Usenet, blogs, or anywhere else that isn't microsoft.com.

I know I do, and I know I yield great professional advantage from doing so, but if it's so unacceptable you'd just better not do it.

I agree. I have learned a lot about Windows this way. Experience speaks louder. I mean tell me the last time you called tech support and really got the help you needed. The reason people come to me is because tech support is terrible. (Although I will say that it is very hard to try and fix a computer over the phone with someone who is not technically inclined.) However even when the computer is taken to the company store to be fixed, it ends up more broken.

While I do agree that BV's advice should not be used in a production environment (any admin. with SENSE, would know that they need to a lot more than just tweaks). I think for a home user it's just the right thing needed, especially if they happen to have XP professional.

The point that you completely missed, is that this is some guy's *personal* site. Someone's *personal* site, laden with *personal* opinions (and pictures of cute kittens) should not be used as a basis for informing one's *professional* career.

A lot of information online is personal (NOT all) experience that others are willing to share. This is called "Consumer Education" from the consumer themselves instead of a company trying to sell a product.
A good example are "error messages". Many times because the company can't reproduce they will ignore complaints about them. However someone online may have had the same problem and have found a solution that they share until the company wises up (which sometimes never happens).

Anyway, all of the computers I use these tweaks on are home computers and these tweaks have worked for me anyway. As I said earlier I get less calls for help when I do these tweaks. BTW I use the "safe" tweaks on all the computers I fix. On my computer I use the "supertweak" setting because my XP is only used for games. My main os is and will always be Linux.
