Hi
In the new testament, Jesus teaches his disciples that you should put new wine into new wine skins because putting new wine into old wine skins would tear the wine skin.

My understanding might be a bit inaccurate but I interpreted this as Jesus's way of saying that we should welcome ideas, strength and wisdom from younger people (the new wine skins) because as people get older they would not have the strength as they would have had when they were younger.

I can already tell by what I've written that I written an inaccurate analogy, so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

hello Danielw, dirtfarmer here

It is my understanding that Jesus was talking about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. As new wine is put into "old wine skins" , they will burst because of the life of new wine expands with it's fermentation( new life), so it is with the indwelling of the Spirit, It must have a new container, so the new birth(born from about) gives us a new life in Christ and cannot be contained by our ol life.

“No man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish" (Lk 5:37). The new wine, the power of the Holy Spirit, was poured out on the Day of Pentecost, and can never be contained in the old bottle of the flesh. Only the new creation is made to receive this new and powerful "Wine." The final verse reinforces the large gulf which exists between the flesh and the spirit: "No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, the old is better" (5:39). The flesh does not even desire the New Wine of the Holy Ghost, let alone receive it. Paul stated it perfectly in Romans 8:17: "The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be."
