Sensates love God through their senses. Sensates can grow their faith by being creative and recognizing the beauty in their life.

What is the Sensate?

Sensates love God through their senses. They love art, music and beauty. King David is a good example of this kind of person. He was a poet, a harpist and a singer, and when he brought the Ark of the Covenant back to the tabernacle — a place richly decorated with gold ornaments, beautiful fabrics, and lots of small artistic touches — he sang, “Oh worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!” (1 Chronicles 16:29). Sensates love audio drams and are more emotionally sensitive to smell, light, and sound

Activities You May Enjoy

  • Have an “art worship” times to reflect on God’s truth through the creation of paintings and pottery.
  • Go to parks and smell the flowers, and think about what our senses tell us about the world.
  • Draw or paint while you listen to a sermon or a speaker.
  • Visit an orchard and pick fresh fruit to experience the wonderful flavors that God has given us to enjoy.
  • Visit a cathedral and observe the beautiful art and imagery, and discuss its meaning.
  • Have worship music playing in the background throughout your day.

Grow Your Faith

Although it is helpful to discover the easiest way for you to connect with God, this knowledge shouldn’t stop you from growing your faith in other ways. As a Sensate, you worship God through art and your senses. One worship style that may complement this strength is the method of the Intellectualist. It is important that the art that you are using to worship God is truthful, and if you don’t have a good foundation of knowledge, that can be difficult to ensure. So, incorporate learning about theology into your worship of God to expand your faith and nurture your own growth as a Sensate.

Here are some other ways you can worship God:

  • Caregivers love God by helping others. Invite someone over to your house for dinner and spend the evening serving them.
  • Enthusiasts connect with God through celebration. Try listening to someone share their testimony and the good work that God has done in their life.
  • Traditionalists use tradition and routine to worship God. Add a consistent habit of psalm reading into your quiet time.
