Would God Endorse the use of Such Things?

Everything God made was good. But there are things, although they were good when God made them, because of their USE, God says they are an abomination. Now are they an abomination all of the time? Of course not. But when they are used in a way that is against God, they are not good.

Let’s look at some of the things God made, but because of their use, He had them destroyed;

God made gold and silver, BUT;

Num.33
[52] Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

He still did not want anything to do with gold or silver that was used for idols.

God made man, BUT:

Deut.4
[3] Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baal-peor: for all the men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

He destroyed those men that served Baal.

God made animals, BUT:

Josh.6
[21] And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ***, with the edge of the sword.

He didn't want the nation to have anything to do, even with the "clean" animals; ie ox and sheep.

Notice what God said about things that were cursed;

Josh.6
[18] And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

Now what about those things dedicated to God? Let's read;

[19] But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

EVERYTHING God made is good. But when those things are used toward evil or for evil, God does not want anything to do with them.

Notice, not ONCE did God say to wash it to make it clean. He never said to remelt the gold and silver. God never had anyone to pray over an item to make it acceptable to Him again. He didn't say, "If you now use that item to worship Me, it will be ok."

Once is was bad.....IT WAS BAD!!!! No amount of time could change it.

Let's look at God's warning to the nation of Israel and ask ourselves, would God want us to engage in those same things as other nations?

Deut.12
[30] Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

1 John 5:21
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Now let's read a few more scriptures;

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

God says to hold on to that which is good.
God tell us to avoid anything that may even appear to be evil.

Romans 12:9
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Paul tells us to abhor evil.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14
9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

God Himself tells us not to do the abominations of the other nations.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

God tells us to separate ourselves from the customs of the world. What fellowship should you have with things once associated with idols and with darkness?

Now let's read about just one of the activities, of one of the most popular holidays in the WHOLE world;

Jer.10
[1] Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
[2] Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
[3] For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
[4] They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
[5] They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

God, through the mouth of Jeremiah, tells us NOT to learn the ways of the heathen, for their customs are VAIN!!!

And what has the whole world learned? Just what God warned us against.

Is not my God awesome!! Of all of the pagan practices, He chose the one that would become the most popular, to use as the example of what we are NOT to do!

Now with all of that said, does anyone honestly believe Jesus would endorse the use of Holly, mistletoe, x-mas trees, yule logs, wreaths or anything that was once associated with pagan worship?

Do you think Jesus would now say, "Because you are now using those things that were once used to worship idols, to worship Me, it is now ok."?

He didn't before.....why would He change His mind and say it's ok now?

Mal.3
[6] For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Heb.13
[8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

EVERYTHING that is used and associated with this holiday season was once used to worship idols.

How can good become evil, but evil not become good? Why is this a one way path for things which you speak? What about the subjectiveness of symbols and referents?

If a bad man uses a Cross in a murder, are crosses then off limits for us?

It's all in the heart. We're blessed..we live in the age of grace, and we can walk in the light the Lord gives us as individuals concerning such matters. We would have to become hermits to avoid coming in contact with the different things man idolizes.

1 Corinthians 8 said:
1Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. 2And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 3But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 5For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 7Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. 8But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. 9But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 10For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 13Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

God uses ALL THINGS- But WE do not have permission to use all things.

I do not personally agree with doing the things you list in the first post BUT i do also believe that the church these days has so much bigger issues to deal with first before these. If the true gospel was preached and everyone was taking up their crosses, we wouldnt have to get down to these littler issues so much.

LOL that already happened!

I've never worn a cross for that reason if for no other reason! I've always wondered why others did...
