Would you live in a cave for three months praying, meditating, fasting, reading scriptures (your choice), thinking, doing yoga, etc..... if you could get time off of work - family - obligations - etc - to find out more about yourself and God?

P.S. - All by yourself and no visits from the world.....

I can pray, meditate, fast, etc at HOME. Plus, I wouldn't want to leave my family. I believe that God blessed me with my family and doesn't want me to abandon them. I think he would rather me pray, meditate, etc WITH my family.

When I was young I lived as a monk and it was very rewarding and great preparation for marriage.

I could do all those things (except yoga.... I'd choose an alternative), though I'm not sure what purpose it would all serve. A vacation idea maybe? I would agree though that solitude is something we as humans need a healthy amount of.

To me the times spent alone in solitude trying to connect to the source are amonst the most meaningful of my life.

Although this is deemed "mystical" it does not take away from its significance in terms of spiritual growth.

Even Jesus took time off in the wilderness when He had only a short time to preach His message before getting killed..... Obviously it has to have some sort of importance for growth.....

Here is a quote by the mystic St. Teresa of Avila on her "solitude" vision....

“the pain was so sharp that it made me utter several moans; and so excessive was the sweetness caused me by this intense pain that one can never wish to lose it.â€Â

I agree with you, those times for myself have been most meaningful in my own life.

Yes, but I think being that everyone knew who He was it was a little harder for Him to get away. He had to be a little more drastic than I would have to be. But hey, if living in a cave for awhile is what you think would best suite you... then I say go for it.

Do I get a toilet seat, tissue, and a refrigerator with automatic restocking of food capabilities?

No i would not isloate myself from the world for 3 months, that sounds absurd lol. But if God wants me to do it then yes i would be up for it, cause i love God id be willing to go beyond my comfort zone hehe.

I meditate and find myself coming closer to the Lord while standing in a cold mountain stream casting flies to rising trout. That is where I feel myself disconnect from the world and my soul restored. I see Him in all that is around me and am very thankful while there.

A cave? Does it have blind cave trout? :-D

Thats definitely a viable alternative....

A cave is just good because it shelters from possible storms or could be used to store food without it getting too wet....

Fishing is a good way to let go as well....

You don't have to use dry leaves, use your socks and T-shirts.

I did that once with a sock when I was running in the woods and at least 5 miles from any civilization....

Suffice to say it works a lot better than leaves that can really cause some acute inflammation of the rectum..... lol 8-)

UM..........EWWWW! :smt078

Yeah, I would do it.

However, I'd probably walk into town once a week to stock up on stuff.

Thats understandable if you were not in too remote of an area...

I would likle to just get WAY out there and have no chance of seeing anyone else.

Also I would like to get in a position where you wouldnt even hear airplanes flying overhead....

When I was in the Peruvian Amazon there were not any planes where I was.... deep in the jungle that is....

the problem with the Amazon is the fact that you would be DEAD if you tried to do that sort of thing alone.... Malaria, snakes, spiders, electric eels.... the works!

I would have to borrow my fathers generator, and take the barbecue grill, and the small fridge and the small TV, subscribe to satellite internet service, so I can take my rig with me. So I might as well stay home.
