Are these same strangers going to raise money for his medical bills after he gains 60 pounds and his physical exercise drops to nothing?

What does that cat do when the weather is bad and it is freezing

I can't believe no one from work would give him a ride.

he might have been a tightwad with paying for gas or a jerk.

a bike might do as well. I know a man who used to ride his bike that distance to work.

Its up over 100,000.00 now, I think the news said tonight it was like 116,000.00 When it gets cold and bad ?
We just got 15 inches of fresh snow with drifts in the range of 2 to 4 ft. I believe they got it too. It's the west side , east side thing. lol

Honestly, I think the whole thing seems a little misguided, IMO.

Man walks 21 miles a day to work, since 2005.

Strangers raise $60,000 to buy Detroit man who walks to work 21 miles a day a car
And you thought your commute was tough
http://news.yahoo.com/james-robertson-detroit-man-walks-21-miles-a-day-campaign-car-201859874.html
My first reaction is this would not be possible. The average person will walk roughly 3mph and that would be a moderately fast pace. At that rate, he'd spend 14 hours a day, just commuting to work. Assuming he works an 8-hour day, that would be a total of 22 hours a day leaving only 2 hours for sleeping and preparing each morning.

Then I read the article and as usual the media blew it way out of proportion with their exaggerated lie. He actually walks 7 miles per day each way, which means he probably spends about 4-5 hours each day on foot and about 1 hour on the bus for a total of about 6 hours each day commuting. Still an amazing thing to do by any stretch.

On a side note. If you live in town and get your mail delivered by a postal carrier on foot, give them a high five when you see them. My neighbor did this until he retired two years ago after 30 years service. He wore a pedometer and learned that he walked over 10 miles every day, six days a week, carrying his mail bag on his shoulder, delivering the mail and it didn't matter if it was raining, snowing, 90 F. and humid, or -25 F. with -60 F. windchill. No wonder he had back issues.

I wonder how much walking I do for my job weekly.

Just walk to the end of the driveway and back. If you are puffing by the time you get back you know your not walking enough. :cool2

So I did that and decided it was time to start exercising. So last year i decided to do a routene morning jog around the block everyday at 5:00am.
I might start next week.:biggrin2

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the right time too.

This is actually the very first thing that entered my mind when I read the story.

When I was 18 I walked about a 1/2 mile down the road to my girl friends house a couple of times and it took a long time. I didn't run any numbers in my head reading the article but I did conclude that would take a long time to walk 21 miles twice a day. It just seemed unreasonable. Then the amount of money they raised for him sounded unreasonable for what they were trying to do for him.

I can ask him but somehow I doubt it. :lol

oh I walk a lot. I have out walked young men new to the job whom to this day I say I nearly jog with my pace of power walking. my 2 mile run time is 16 minutes. I know I can easily walk 6 miles.
