This Week's Prayer Guide

May 11 - This week, pray for the needs of the people of Wuhan. Pray for the church to be a Christlike witness to their friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members.

May 12 - “This pandemic affected the entire world,” shares a pastor, “and Wuhan was the epicenter. We were the first to experience lockdown, for over two months. The pandemic deeply impacted this city.” Pray for those in Wuhan who were affected by the pandemic and the lockdowns, and for the church to provide care and love for them.

May 13 - “After the pandemic,” shares a pastor in Wuhan, “there's been a small wave of emigration.” Another pastor, when speaking of the results of the pandemic and recent economic downturn, shares: “Many companies couldn't survive, either going bankrupt or implementing significant salary cuts. So, some people left and returned to their hometowns. A large portion went back home or to places with better economies than Wuhan to make a living.” Pray for those who have left Wuhan to also find Christ, and for those who remain behind to know Christ’s presence.

May 14 - A pastor in Wuhan shares that many middle-aged adults are “filled with fear and anxiety. They worry about social security, education, healthcare, medical insurance, and employment. They feel lost and uncertain about the future. People have also become quite indifferent to each other. There's a lack of trust. If you try to share the gospel or talk about faith, they think they need to focus on practical matters, like making money.” Pray for these middle-aged people who are filled with fear to know the peace of Christ, and for people to care more about each other.

May 15 - “Wuhan used to be a key city for student ministry,” shares one pastor, “but now this work has been severely impacted. Evangelism in general isn't as vibrant as in previous years. Before, churches could organize various activities to share the gospel throughout the city. Now, we face numerous restrictions, and large-scale events are impossible.” Pray for evangelism efforts in Wuhan among students and among the people in general, for churches to have wisdom and hope as they witness the gospel.

May 16 - Speaking of the harsher environment in Wuhan now, one pastor says, “We've even had experiences where elementary school students reported us while we were sharing the gospel with students. We once went to a school to share the gospel with elementary students, and even fourth and fifth graders called us a cult, took pictures with their phones, and called the police. So, how can the gospel flourish in Wuhan now? How can we revive it?” Pray for the gospel to flourish in Wuhan, for the Lord to soften hard hearts.

May 17 - A pastor in Wuhan shares, “There's a lack of trust and connection between people. It's difficult to build relationships. Many brothers and sisters are reluctant to have pastors visit their homes, unwilling to open their doors, which also means they're not willing to open their hearts. This external political control and propaganda has isolated the church from society.” Pray for more trust and connection between people in Wuhan, that the gospel can help heal and renew society.
