When the site was off line I used used a neat little tool that you can download for firefox that can link you to most broken websites. Sometimes when a forum goes down I can see some stuff that was posted before the site went down. It searches on some web archive site. Most likely, it is a web page caching service which archives periodically. If a server or host is down or denial of service is being used against a site, most tools can't get you in.
