That is true, Douglas. But I think it is getting worse
That's what is supposed to happen.
Romans 7:
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good;
that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
As to sin getting worse? The general death sentence in relationship to "having sin" hasn't changed from day 1. Degrees of same don't really enter into the equations.
As to sin obtaining it's "strength" from the Law, there is no doubt. 1 Cor. 15:56 shows us this reality, and it's intention is for the death of the natural man.
God has "subjected" all of us to this vanity, and it is done in Hope.
Deuteronomy 31:17
Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and
I will forsake them, and
I will hide my face from them, and
they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them;
so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
Natural man, left to his own devices, will always turn up lacking. And in that, we are to ask ourselves the same question. Really no different than the laments of Job or of Jeremiah or any other numbers of prophets who spoke likewise, of their "woe is me" or "wretched man that I am" status.
These travails tend to drive us deeper into the matters of God in Christ and are exactly for that purpose.
