Yoga, Reflexology...Etc.

It is my understanding tha Yoga is a discipline of the Hindu religion.

Can Christians participate in Yoga exercise classes without corrupting their walk with Christ?

Also, I've briefly scanned a book on Reflexolgy, another exercise/massage type of routine, that gives me concerns.

Does anyone know of any specifics that would apply to these two health oriented workouts, or even any others not mentioned here?

In Christ,

Yoga has many good physical benefits but it's the mental and spiritual teachings that go along with the exercise that are concerning. Attending a yoga class is unwise and a dangerous thing for a Christian to do. But if you just print a yoga workout off the internet or something, it wouldn't do any harm to your walk with Christ. There is nothing wrong with practicing reflexology though.

I too would love to find a Christian alternative to Yoga. If anyone knows of one please tell me.

I will admit...I have always been rather uncertain on this topic. Yoga, in the physical sense, has been something I find that has made my pregnancy easy to bear. The breathing has helped a bit with my posture. Even then though...I do so on the Wii at my folk's. The spiritual side of Yoga I have tried to steer clear of due to the questions I have in terms of meditation and some of the things in which are taught and practiced.

If there are good alternatives I too would like to know them.

I would suggest doing Pilates. It's a great work out and doesn't have the spiritual "stuff" attached.

My take is that there are many problems with Yoga. First the word means "union" and all the positions are prayer positions- just as Christians pray with their body positions(kneeling, prostrate, hands folded, orans-arms opened- etc) the positions in yoga are a prayer in themselves. I know many are not intending them to be, but they are dangerous because they invite spirits into our lives.

in physical the exorcise type of yoga there is a summoning of the "kundalini" spirit- meaning the serpent spirit, to help you bend(most do this without knowing it). They summon it from the base of the spine to lead it to the brain where it can be in union with "shiva"

there are many, many types of yoga but there 3 major ones. there is tantric, which is salvation through sex,"some other name"salvation through exorcise, and another type which i forget all together....the "salvation through exorcise is the form practiced as "exorcise"

here is an article from Hindu Today that may shed some light. It says how yoga can not be separated from the spirit of yoga
