Your Thoughts On Luke 13:4

The killings of the children in my state made me think of
luke 13:15 because things happen in this world beyond our control. A example a group of Holy Ghost filled people can go down in a plane crash and die. Or like these children who did nothing to anyone. An I an hurt and angry about it. But anyway heck out these scriptures and really take a look at verse 4. Jesus seems to be saying Things Happen. Give some thoughts on this.

Luke 13

1There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

This is really a tough one because we, as in history does not tell us much about it. What we know is that Pilot had these Galileans killed for or while they were offering scarifices. Thats it. We don't have a reason. I can guess but would likley be wrong. As for the other tragedy concerning the collapse of a tower in Siloam which caused the death of eighteen persons. Nothing else is known about this accident except what is recorded here. Fortunately, it is not necessary to know any further details. The point emphasized by the Lord Jesus Christ was that this catastrophe should not be interpreted as a special judgment for gross wickedness. Rather, it should be seen as a warning to all the nation of Israel that unless they repented, a similar doom would come upon them. This doom came to pass in a.d. 70 when Titus invaded Jerusalem. We know this warning is directed to Israel because of the few details we do have. If it was a general warning or one of those '' accidents happen'' Kind of things, it would be my opinion that the Lord would have used a parable.

I did look in some commentaries and they pretty much seem to skip over this, so this tells you how tough this part of scripture is. To say more than what we know would be speculation.

Blessings,
Javier

Thanks for our answer' I was told and read that Jesus was saying that' Time And Chance Happens To Us All. So what do you think of that one ?

I don't believe that is what this particular verse is saying at all. We live in a sinful world that belongs to Satan right now. No dought evil one takes pleasure in things like what happened in Colorado at the school and to those amish people as well. No dought his armies are behind these calameties. In the context of this verse, Jesus was speaking of Israel IMO. I really believe if Jesus was speaking of this in general application, he would have taught this during the sermon on mount or would have taught it in a parable. I also don't recall the Apostle paul ever giving a similar warning.

One of my favorite Bible teachers is Jon Courson
He has a saying that goes like this.
Proper doctrine is expressed by Christ
Practiced in Acts
Explained by Paul.
I have found this small saying very useful through out the years.

Just my 2 cents worth. I would love to hear what others opinions on this verse are.

I like it. That's a 2 thumbs up.

I think the problem is that Christendom has adopted a different meaning for the word perish than that which it actually says.

If suddenly an airplane crashed and 200 children died, It would be nice if God could announce something worldwide that would make himself known as a comfort for the parents, and for the rest of the world. It feels about the right time for God to shake this earth in a way we have never seen. When will this test end?

Hi Crimson, and welcome to the board.

Do not be discouraged. Last night, I had a hard time resting because I was feeling as if I just wanted to be far from this world. I was praying, "Lord, please come soon." Then, a thought struck me...

I have family that doesn't know you, and children who need to know you, and friends, neighbors...stangers even! I need to be a light, and pray for these. Please Lord, let my prayer be like Abraham's intercession for Sodom when he hoped that there were a least 10 righteous men there. Genesis 18:32 "And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake." I endure this world, but am comforted. How many are here without it, yet in need of it...a healing of the soul? An eternal life of comfort in God.

How much longer will a Holy God endure the sin in this world that results in pain, and death? Long enough to give everyone an opportunity to know Him.

The Lord is patient, and not slack in His promises, for the sake of the lost. 2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. "

He will come, though...

2 Peter 3:13-14
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Be comforted, and prepared. Live for Him, and spread the Gospel as much as you can. The Lord bless you.
